How do you feel about Nurse Practitioners?

How do you personally feel about seeing a nurse practitioner for medical treatment and care vs seeing a medical doctor?
I have mixed feelings about NP’s. I see more than one regularly for care. I understand they are medical professionals and went through training, but I can’t help but feel an MD would be the ultimate better choice for care due to the more years of training they went through.
If there are any NP’s here, please don’t take offense. You busted your arse to become one. This is just for the sake of debate and conversation.

They usually hustle to whereas the physician who’s license they practice under is more often than not older/slower.

not the same....that just shows your ignorance
As far as NP's and PA's go it depends on what you're seeing them for and what type of specialist or what your ailment or condition is

The same as a pharmacist giving you meds when it’s obvious what you have.

How low cut is her shirt?

They are ok in some instances but Inhate how the medical profession is set up where you see one of them before you have an appt with the doctor. It is a cycle of appts.

I have a very old friend who is a NP, I trust her more than anyone, she is very smart and very kind
Helps that I’ve known her for 30 years

In all honesty, you are more likely to get more attention from an NP or a PA than a doctor. That's not an attack, but most doctors are about quantity versus quality so they are about getting in and out of the room with you and turning over as many patients as they can.
Secondly, a big part of medicine is experience. A NP with 20 years under their belt actual practice is going to be more qualified than an MD with let's say 5 years or less of experience. In medicine experience is king.

I see an MD.
I don’t mind seeing a NP or PA for urgent care crap when it’s something that I know what I need- abx or X-ray or what not- but for ongoing care, yearly visits and anything other than urgent care needs- I always schedule with my medical doctor.

I’d rather see an MD. Its why I avoid urgent cares & after hours as much as possible, it’s nearly impossible to see anyone other than an NP.
Also per my last 2 after hours visits, the MD was cheaper than the NP. Go figure.

I prefer seeing my NP over my Dr. She acts like she actually gives a frick. I'll go to her for most things. I'll go to my doctor if I know he's going to refer me somewhere else.

The last time I saw one was at an urgent care for a staph infection. She said it didn't need to be lanced and antibiotics would take care of it.
I went into the doctor a week later for a different issue and told him about it becauee it seemed to be lingering. He referred me to see the surgeon downstairs and said the NP absolutely should have lanced it.

They're more accessible. But for something really serious, MD all the way.

Doctors make more money when you see them.
Patients generally don’t like seeing them.

If you're just there to get a prescription refilled, or need some meds or a steroid shot....a PA or NP is all you need
IF you're there for a follow up after surgery, a PA or NP is all you need
If you're there to have brain surgery or a sex change you might want a actual neurosurgeon or plastic surgeon.

If we are talking just a flu type sickness or a wellness check then I don't see a difference between a doctor and an NP. Its pretty straight forward stuff.
My 2 cents on more complicated matters is that an NP had to work as a nurse prior to becoming a NP which means they have more hands on experience with actual patient care than the doctor.
The Doctor, on the other hand, went through much more rigorous schooling and apprenticeship and therefore has more in depth knowledge.
They (should) operate as a team. Meaning the Doctor, who checks over everything the NP does can use his knowledge base to fill in any blanks that the NP has and then the NP can use their hands on experience to help the Doctor make patient care decisions.

If you're there to get a sex change you need a psychologist.
