So not fully guaranteed as originally reported.
Edit: Does this also mean the cap hit will only be about $4.5M; singing bonus & salary only as he still needs to earn workout & per-game bonuses?

They should count this year and if he misses games the $450k / game will credit against next season

I really hope Cam Jordan pulls this kid in and gets him anywhere close to what he was hyped up to be.

Chase Young has tremendous potential that he still hasn't tapped into, he's young as can be, so, tremendous upside value.

So you're saying in order to get his money he'll have to play football? Man, Loomis ain't messing around with these buckeyes anymore!
In all seriousness this is better news, but I was 50/50 on this Chase add even when I thought he was 100% healthy. I like the guy, he's a freak athlete and I don't see him as a typical OSU prima donna, but I just don't see the long term value. And you have to think with as little as he's produced, you want him to get a full off season and training camp to be in peak form and actually pay off.

I would agree with you if we were investing in this guy long term. But its a one year deal for a guy coming off neck surgery who previously has shown coming off another surgery that it would take extensive time to recover and be an impact player (ACL surgery). To me we’re gambling away 5 mill for a guy who might be able to be impactful (maybe 5-7 sacks if we’re lucky). People say 5 mill who cares- for a team that has severe cap issues that 5 mil could be used elsewhere in my opinion.

Aren't you a Carr-truther? Don't talk about wasting money

Yea, that little tidbit about the $8M being protected against a cut came out after my question. Hopefully this either produces a very motivated Chase Young that will be very disruptive; or if he's more of what we saw the last few years he'll miss several games and we will have some cap savings for 2025.

Wouldn’t surprise me if he goes on IR and takes 5 million paycheck with him. Thats a strong possibility. This isn’t a knee scope but neck surgery.
