Starting LT I presume. Hopefully Penning can play OG.
If we're still just using him as a swing tackle backup, then maybe we go after Josh Jones to play LT.

i kept saying he was a cut candidate. he could have saved 4.2 outright cut. this works out really well for Saints, i guess good enough for hurst to stay 1 more year.

Are there any offensive lineman worth a damn that we can get?
That to me seems like a DESPERATE need.

The Saints seem to be pretty good at getting guys to take reduced deals based on their actual market value rather than having to cut them outright like the Chargers

Tyron Smith still out there but is probably gonna want a pretty big deal at age 33.
Trent Brown is also still out there, only 31 and is actually good but has missed a lot of games in recent years. Might not be a bad option if we can get him at a medium price and hope the new coaching staff can bring along Penning to at least be a decent backup in the event Brown goes down.

Negatory Ghost Rider. If he is we have some bad injuries at tackle
PS
Starting caliber Tackles don't take pay cuts to such a low level. He just don't want to move again

Hurst's agent has probably tested the waters and knows that his client won't get more than the Saints offer. The players the Chargers are cutting definitely can get more on the open market.

Is Trai Turner still on the team ? I know he tore his arm muscle or something. But would he be good for next year
Posted on 3/15/24 at 9:41 am to saintlad74
Looks like he tore his quad and he is a UFA, it was a 1 year minimum deal
Posted on 3/15/24 at 9:43 am to Proximo
I've tried to find a update on Trai to no avail. Maybe Tripp knows something
Still listed on team so maybe its a wait and see.

For all the "players hate DA" talk, we have now seen several notable vets take paycuts to stay on the roster.

The Charges did get Bosa and Mack to reduce their deals.

They restructured, not reduced afaik. And they had to release Williams and trade Allen.. I can’t recall the last real cap casualty the Saints had

Our FO seems to be waiving the white flag subtly.
Hurst is a better option than most bad-mediocre teams we'll be competing with in that tier.
Or, like I said, we can get a budget LT who is better in Josh Jones. I think guys like him may be trying for 1-year prove it deals and we may not be able to make that work cap-wise.

They did both.
quote:
Khalil shed $4.25 million from his salary, going from $23.25M to $19M, which Ed McGuire then restructured. Joey shed $7 million, but the salary became fully guaranteed and was offered $4 million in incentives. They also have him an extra $4 million in his roster bonus next year, meaning the Chargers won’t have the same window to try and negotiate a trade before guaranteeing with his now $12.36 million roster bonus.
So the 2 combined to reduce their salaries by a combined $11.25M

Chad, as always, I ask you to show your work. I showed mine.

That’s what I get for clicking on The Athletic article that only mentioned restructuring.
The point remains though that we don’t really cut guys on the eve of FA just to get under the cap
