Just read on Twitter;

“Will Wade is now the owner of the greatest single season win turnaround in Division 1 men’s basketball history. 11 wins to 29 wins, +18 wins w games yet to play.”

LSU has never in her esteemed history had a more talented General prowling the campus than the great CWW.

There was a guy named Skip Bertman who was pretty good

He's older, hopefully wiser, has access to the transfer portal, NIL, and of course it's the Southland Conference. 5/10 teams had 20 or more losses and his closest competitor was Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 21-11.

That said, great turnaround this year. Should beat Nicholls in the championship game and go dancing.

Maybe the competition is not as good so his teams are beating non-SEC comp

It's all relative, he took over a literal shitshow with no relevant basketball history or local interest, a perinnial doormat in whatever conference they played in for decades and not only won but won in convincing and dominating fashion.

There just ain't many coaches anywhere who could do what WW did at McNeese in 1 year and to pretend otherwise is obtuse.

It is and so is equating what he has done in the southland to doing the same thing in a tougher conference.

Wade is at least a very good coach but he is an elite recruiter. That will always pay off for whoever hires him.

To be considered an elite coach he will have to start at least getting into some final fours. He can do something this year he has yet to accomplish, win his conference tournament.

Good luck coach Wade and good luck McNeese!

Only a matter of time before he's back in the SEC. Hopefully it's not at UGA or UK.

I'm hoping he ends up in the ACC or Big10 instead

But he did.
From Jonny Jones to NCAA tourney in two years is pretty impressive.

So he cheated? How many of the teams that we faced were not cheating.
Samson (Houston)has the number 1 team in the NCAA. How many times has he been caught cheating?

No LSU coach has out-recruited Dale Brown. And frankly, no one did more come tourney time. He was there for 25 years, you would think you would know these things.

IMO, Pat Henry is the greatest HC in LSU history based on his body of work in Baton Rouge.

In his first year at LSU (1987), he won a National Championship, 3 SEC titles and earned 2 conference Coach of the Year awards. Henry won 27 national titles, 19 SEC titles, 15 SEC Coach of the Year awards and five National Coach of the Year honors during his 17 seasons at LSU. He would win both the men's and women's National titles in both 1989 and 1990.

At LSU, he produced 37 Olympians, 38 World Championship competitors, 3 Olympic Gold Medalists, and 5 medalists at the World Championships.

Henry is arguably one of the greatest NCAA coaches of all-time as he has the skins to prove it - 37 NC's. Henry has won at every level he's coached.

Hobb, NM (HS) - 5 State Championships
Blinn JUCO - 2 National Championships
LSU - 27 National Titles
A&M - 10 National titles including Mens and Womens Outdoor National Champions with a 3-peat (2009, 2010, 2011)

I suppose he is on a more level playing field. NIL and Transfer Portal has made recruiting more equal. Blue Bloods can no longer stockpile players, giving Sport outsiders the opportunity to sign, develop and be more competitive .
Look how Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, and North Carolina teams have fallen back into the pack.

Yes and no - that's why I prefaced it with it's all relative. But I'll say again, what he did in one year at that school....I don't care what conference it is....the number of coaches who could do what he just did....very, very, very few.

I think another thing that has benefitted Wade, especially being at a school like Mcneese, is the model that he has adopted with the portal. In his interview he did a few weeks ago, he talked about how he has embraced transfers using Mcneese as a stepping stone to get to larger programs. Not a ton of coaches have been able to accept that model and implement it well, but he has done a great job with it. No idea what his model would look like at a large program because the NIL and portal stuff was just starting up during his last year here
