The NAACP asked Black student-athletes to reconsider their decisions to attend public colleges and universities in the state of Florida, in response to the University of Florida and other state schools recently eliminating their diversity, equity and inclusion programs.

In a letter sent to NCAA president Charlie Baker and addressed to current and prospective student-athletes Monday, NAACP president and CEO Derrick Johnson wrote, "This is not about politics. It's about the protection of our community, the progression of our culture, and most of all, it's about your education, and your future."

Last year, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill that prohibits the use of state funds for any DEI programs. As a result, the University of Florida announced on March 1 it had closed the Office of the Chief Diversity Officer, eliminated 13 full-time DEI positions and 15 administrative appointments and halted DEI-focused contracts with outside vendors.

In a statement, Johnson said, "Diversity, equity, and inclusion are paramount to ensuring equitable and effective educational outcomes. The value Black and other college athletes bring to large universities is unmatched. If these institutions are unable to completely invest in those athletes, it's time they take their talents elsewhere."

This is an honest question: why does no other race say things like this? You never hear Hispanic or Asian folks talk about “progressing their culture”. What exactly needs to be progressed in Black culture? Again, honest question; I’m just looking to be educated.

shouldn't the NAACP be better off focused on items like trying to end the BD/GD war in chicago for example, and other gang related issues killing scores of young black men in america?

There’s only so many starting spots in the SEC, and 1/14 (soon 1/16) are in Florida

They're advocating for their people. They aren't playing by the colorblind, meritocracy rules that whites apply to themselves.

It's a press release. The progression of the culture crap is just a little salesmanship to mean that they're pushing a pro-black agenda.

So, of course, they don't want to get rid of DEI, affirmative action, etc. They're pro-black and anti-white. Stop expecting your enemies to adopt your morality.

Will the average athlete care more about DEI / lack thereof or NIL or lack thereof?

Yeah, thought so.

Florida is going to be an even better state to live in if that’s the case.

Can those useless bastards ask them to reconsider Texas and Louisiana colleges as well? Please??

"Equitable outcomes" leads to plane crashes.

You can't manufacture success for all.

What leads to a strong, healthy and advanced society is merit-based outcomes.

Why say this about LSU student athletes? What did Tre Morgan and Jamarr Chase ever do wrong?

Exactly. It's not the answer.
