Which is crazy, because our fire season isn't typically the winter, and that burn frequency contributes to lower Conservatism in the prairie. Most of the prairie endemic species are on the higher end of the Conservatism scale, which means they aren't fond of frequent disturbance.

I'd like to think they wouldn't advise burning every year after establishment. Natural fire cycles in a given area didn't even happen yearly, or anywhere close.

I haven’t read it in a while but my recollection is that annual burning is recommended to get the planting established. I’m guessing annual after that isn’t necessary

Definitely never heard of burning every year for establishment. Seems like a good way to stress and kill alot of plants that are trying to put down roots.

I’ve read cut to 6” for 2 years, then burn anywhere from year 3-5. And then 3 yr cycles

Best thing you can do is consult with Malcom Vidrine or Steve Nevitt if you live in the historical Cajun prairie region and are really serious about the project. I’d have to imagine they have the most experience in restorations around here.

Two amongst a dozen or so...and every one of them is going to give you one and only one path to doing it. There is no other way for that group.

I suggest you get on Facebook and join Louisiana Native Plant Society. Also, Cajun Prairie Society. Native plants , grasses, trees are the next wave.
