American culture seems constipated right now

Just listening to Ventura Highway and it took me back to my childhood. American culture seemed to be more free and energetic back then. More youthful seeming. Probably just me getting older. Stoned though of the day.

Things stalled out in the early 2000s. Take a Time Machine to 2004 and it wouldn’t be that different at all.
If someone took a Time Machine from 1984 to 1964 it would be light years different.

Something has been lost on getting new content when we suddenly have all of popular content ever made, available at an instant on demand.

Definitely. I guess that is what I am referring to. Culture was changing and transforming so rapidly then across the spectrum.

Maybe my favorite song ever

It's the internet and how connected everyone is now. I think it's also made places less unique. Even things like accents have declined.

Exactamundo. (Everything feels "jammed up" or frozen. OR TRAPPED.)
This is exactly why I've been reminiscing and catching up n 20th century music and culture. Those who recall that feeling of "freeeeeeee" and "giddy-uppppp" can compare and contrast that vibe with the current vibe -- it's remotely not close and it's NOT our imagination and it's NOT about age, "Boomer".

I’m 56 so not a Boomer. Just a different vibe back then. The internet has impacted it the most in my opinion. People were more social and cordial back then. Better sense of humor.

Unique, regional accents began their decline with radio and picked up pace with every new technology that got introduced. It all shrank the world. Prior to radio people would live their entire lives within a few hills and hollers, rarely if ever being exposed to any different cultures. The regional dialect and accents have been getting chiseled away ever since. Books have been written about the subject.

There were hundreds of possibilities and endless opportunities. It feels very claustrophobic right now.

Probably some of that good sativa stuff. Here in Louisiana you can get D-9 THC:CBD 2:5 ratio gummies legally. I love watching ballgames on them.

American culture has been replaced with the fake reality that Netflix and Amazon prime have foisted upon us- that our country is half lesbian, trans, minorities and evil white people. Our culture is stagnant because anyone willing to color outside the lines and take a risk is immediately identified and canceled.

It’s a concept some call The Slow Cancellation of the Future.
A new song released tomorrow to streaming platforms must compete for listens against every song ever recorded. That’s a steep hill to climb for new artists trying to gain traction.
Back in the day, past music and movies faded away to make room for new things. That doesn’t happen in the internet age. It’s just as easy to binge watch Seinfeld or The Simpsons as it is The Bear or Succession.

Not just the culture but the way the world and the built environment looks. 2004-2024 largely looks, talks, sounds, and acts the same. Really 2010-2024 because by 2010 the smart phone was ubiquitous. Turn of tv news in 2004 and 2024 and truly, nothing has changed in content, mores, delivery.
But 84-04, 64-84, 44-64, 24-44 you might as well be on a different planet.
