QBs go in the top 10 based on potential all the time.

Anthony Richardson (4)
Zach Wilson (2)
Trey Lance (3)
Daniel Jones (6)
Sam Darnold (2)
Josh Rosen (10)
Mitchell Trubisky (2)
Blake Bortles (3)

Maye’s potential is through the roof.

Drafting on potential is more likely to happen when there is a need for a QB on a team but not many good prospects to choose from.

Darnold and Rosen are the exceptions given that they were in the QB class that saw Mayfield and Allen also go high.

A team’s history of developing QBs also plays into it I am sure. Trubinsky busted in Chicago but I bet Mahomes, the next QB off the board, would have busted there too because they wouldn’t have had a clue on how to use him.

Drake Maye is the best QB in this draft so of course Chris Simms thinks he’s mediocre lol

Doesn't that list say that drafting on raw potential that high normally does not work out too well? Sounds like Simms is saying not to do it with Maye as well. He's ranking them by his own evaluation, not predicting where they'll be drafted.

that list isnt a ringing endorsement of that strategy.

Anthony Richardson (4) - looked good after one year, but its only one year
Zach Wilson (2) - oof
Trey Lance (3) - oof
Daniel Jones (6) - meh
Sam Darnold (2) - oof
Josh Rosen (10) - oof
Mitchell Trubisky (2) - oof
Blake Bortles (3) - oof

yea may be time to stop drafting the most important position on the team so highly based on "potential"

This list does not help his "potential is through the roof" case.
