moscona’s interview
It's worse than what I expected.
LSU only will pick the low bid.
LSU isn't even picking the site. I guess maybe they shouldn't, they won't be paying for it and won't own it.

1. Teams won't even be able to practice in it.
2. LSU won't even own it - a developer will.
3. insanity sets in by eliminating the track facility
4. developer will select a site no where near the pmac
5. LSU will only be allowed to have games in the new arena.(approximately will have exclusive use 60-70 days per year)
6. Moscona couldn't ask the tough question. Are you getting input from any of the coaches?

7. I got a bridge I want to sell to these motherfrickers.

ETA: ITS A CONCERT HALL WITH REMOVABLE BASKETBALL GOALS...LMAO

I don’t disagree with some of your negatives, but realistically what are the other options for a new arena?

It remains to be seen how expensive that lease fee would be, but outside of that it seems like a fair deal similar to any pro basketball arena.

A new state of the art arena at no cost to LSU or the tax payer that both vastly upgrades the game day experience and potentially attracts legitimate entertainment options to town?

Sounds like the best idea Baton Rouge has had in a long time.

Idk what else you’re expecting LSU to be able to do. A new arena costs about 300 million these days and even rich arse Texas had to partner with the city. Their endowment is 40 billion and they even did this.

Alabama can’t raise the money they need for theirs which is roughly 250 million. We fricked up not building an arena pre covid construction costs like ole miss and auburn

Do you honestly think

(a) LSU could afford a new arena without a private developer?

(b) a private developer would even consider building a basketball-only arena?

(c) this chance will ever come our way in the next 50 years?

Build the damn thing.

Damn some of y'all are hard to please. Its not a terrible idea, and in this day and age it's probably the only way something decent gets built. LSU can't and won't spend the money necessary to build a top flight arena. It has to be used to make money more than 60 days a year hosting games for programs that lose money annually. This is a way around that, it's an interesting idea if carried out correctly, we'll see.

Obviously not Mulkey. This is the opposite of what she wants. She wants to practice there. She wants a basketball arena that can host concerts from time to time. Of course she didn’t say how she expects it to be paid for. I know she is the consummate fundraiser but even she has limits.

This sounds like the same logistical setup that Mulkey left Baylor over.

So yeah, coach’s office moved to PMAC and you practice there. But now your game venue is even further away and it sure as shite ain’t gonna be a “made for basketball” arena. As someone said, it sounds like a concert hall that you’ll wheel basketball goals into. It may not be much better a basketball atmosphere than the PMAC and maybe worse.

When Wade was here he complained about the offices being separate from the game venue and Mulkey feels the same way judging by the Baylor situation.

Sounds like as far as LSU basketball and what our coaches want, which is all the frick I care about, this is a step backward, not forward.

*Not sure why this thread is anchored since it is discussing an important issue.
