re: How long will movie theaters survive?

The smart ones will pivot to events - either getting older movies up there on the cheap (sell $4 tickets and get folks in for the concessions), birthday parties with Fortnite up there on the huge screen, etc.
The dumb ones will die. It's not sustainable when Joe and Jane Trailerpark have a 85" screen in their double wide and they expect a family of 4 to drop well over $100 (tickets, concessions) for a dull, reimagined wokefest at their muliplex.

I think plenty of people want to go to the movies. I know my kids love it. They just aren't making tons of movies worth going these days. I think many theaters would do well if they decreased the number of screens.

We used to go occasionally when the kids were younger to go see whatever the new Pixar movie was out. I think we've only been once in the past 5-6 years now though.
The last movie my wife and I saw in the theater without kids was The Departed
I'm almost certain that the last movie that I watched in a theatre was Interstellar (10 years ago)

I am working on that now...

There are only 6 core plot types to begin with, maybe some derivatives.

Uh oh. You have a hat in hand apology tour to plan.
I wasn’t joking that you cannot produce many past masterpieces any more.
Why don’t we have many good movies anymore? Because many storylines are pre quashed. Many novels off limits.

As long as they keep pumping out kids movies, and the occasional blockbuster, they will be fine. It's still a great experience to take your kids to the movies or go to the movies in HS on a date.
I don't know why everyone is cheering for the death of the cinema. It won't happen. Although, if it ever does, there will be a resurgence again for media like that. Just like vinyl was all but dead but now is back and almost as big as before it was put on life support.

Nah, that's their mistake

Both the novel and film depict Gumb as hating his own identity, though multiple characters state that Gumb is not transsexual. In the novel, multiple examples of how Gumb does not fit the psychological profile of a real transsexual are given.

That's basically what the ones around here have been doing. We've probably been to the movies more this year than in recent memory (going in the next week or so for Dune Part 2) and noticed they are running classic movies on typical off-peak times. For instance, ours is doing Terminator 2 today.

I don’t know about the industry as a whole but Weren't Barbie and Oppenheimer extremely successful in theaters?

Cant even get a decent Western movie made anymore. I guess Clint Eastwood got to damn old to sit on a horse.
