The irony of funding Ukraine is that the conflict is keeping oil prices high.

Which in turn is benefitting Russia more than any sanction we put on them.
The same with giving Iran money enabling the attack on Israel.
Everything this administration does furthers global conflict ultimately helping our enemies and lining the pockets of congress.

IMO, maybe 10% of the cause.
The Green New Deal type policies out of this administration is the remaining 90%.

True! Russia is laughing all the way to the bank while being called the boogieman.

Oil prices are not even remotely high lol.
Adjusted for inflation oil is below average over the last 20, 40 and 50 years.

It's actually all of the Energy EO's he signed on Day 1 that did a 180 on all of Trump's policies.
Joe Biden raised oil by increasing business costs to produce.

I did a quick google and oil per barrel was $95.72 per barrel on Feb 1st of 2022. Today it’s $76.92 per barrel.
Go back and check, your thesis is incorrect.

I am one of the few on this board that believes the president has very little to do with the overall price of oil, but I found this interesting. This is NOT a political statement for or against any president.
Average monthly US crude oil production by year.
2013 - 227,984 per month
2014 - 267,387
2015 - 287,116
2016 - 269,816
2017 - 284,621
2018 - 333,098
2019 - 374,462
2020 - 345,209
2021 - 342,727
2022 - 362,281
2023 - 391,616
Looking at the price of oil v price of gas, the ratio of the cost to price is MUCH higher than it has been in the past.

Yep. Had this very conversation with my MIL when she thought she was “sticking it to Putin” by paying more at the pump because we stopped importing Russian oil. When I told her that China is more than happy to buy the Russian oil we weren’t buying but at a higher price which made Putin wealthier, she went quiet for a minute and then said, “well I just don’t believe that is true.”

Then why is oil relatively cheap right now?

Your MIL is right, it's not true.
China is paying LESS for Russian oil than they would otherwise.

It's pretty impressive just how wrong several people are in this thread
Makes you wonder if they'll have a much needed paradigm shift in thinking. Probably not.

None of what you told your MIL matches the facts.

Come on cwill, he did get "China is more than happy to buy the Russian oil" right. Nothing else, but he did get that

keeping oil prices high
"High"?
Assuming an oil price of $80/bbl today, the inflation adjusted price in 1973, just before the first oil embargo, would be $11.52. The actual cost of a barrel then was $24.78.
$80 oil is just about right for Louisiana revenues from severance.
