People that want to carry a pistol are going to carry one whether a permit is required or not.
I have a small .38 that I carried before permits were a thing. My rationale was I would rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6.
I never had to use it nor did I want to but I had it just in case.
When they started CC permits I got one and have had it ever since.

Wait until they pass SB2 - grants some immunity from civil liability for using the concealed weapon, except for things like gross negligence.

might be a case to complete a training class
Oh, how long should this training class be, and how much should it cost? Is a full day not sufficient? How about five days? What is the single mom working at Piggly Wiggly supposed to do with that? It's an entirely classist argument. You suppose the argument is, "they'll just pay an extra $40, wait 5 days, schedule their class in 2 months, have to hit the bullseye 7/10 times at 5 yards, and that proves that assholes won't shoot each other at a Super Bowl Parade."
Who decides? What needs to be taught? Should we add gun violence prevention fees?
Gun licensing/training is borne out of ways to keep blacks from owning firearms. As an example, Alabama was "may issue" based on the decision of the local sheriff until relatively recently, because it was racism based. The left adopted gun control thanks to women wanting safety at all costs. But it's racist as hell.

Perhaps the vast majority culture of responsible firearm ownership will return out of necessity with this law being passed. I hope it gets here sooner rather than later.
In the meantime, requiring training, even with it’s pitfalls, is worth considering.
It's legal already in 22 states. Is all hell breaking loose there?

Laugh, but at the first concealed carry course I ever took, the one person in the room I deemed competent eith a firearm (instructor included) was a black guy from north baton rouge with a mouth full of gold a few face tats.
Instructor handed him a weapon at one point, he pointed it away from the group, removed mag, cleared it, reinserted mag and moved the grip in his hand until it felt comfortable.
When he handed it to me, I also made sure to keep it pointed in a safe dorection.
The other 8 god damned people were pointing it without a care in the world.
When it came time to shoot, you shot in pairs. I loudly stated me and **** are going first. He looked over nodded. We shot and GTFO. He fired all 36 shots with the gun held sideways. He also didnt miss. I fired all 36 shots looking at him instead of the target.
Grandma's first shot with the .357 snubby sent the gun flying into the glass at precision.
The classes are nothing but a money grab.

No it isn’t. It’s borne out of a money grab.

That’s a solid point.
I wouldn’t think that it would make a huge difference in reducing violent incidents if training was required, and the difference would be hard to measure anyway since crime stats are affected by so many factors.
The stats you’d have to look for are accidental shootings, escalations of road rage to shooting incidents, unlawful defensive shootings, minors getting access to guns in the home, and other such stats, and those are also affected by other influences. IMO those wouldn’t spike very much individually enough to detect, but could be significant in totality.
I’ll say again that I support constitutional carry, and think that the benefits outweigh the negatives even without training, but having a training requirement, especially for those under a certain age without military or law enforcement training, wouldn’t be the worst thing if that is what it takes to get the bill to pass.

We have had this argument 1000x on the OB.
LE guys are the most dangerous people I've encountered with guns.
Familiarity without competency breeeds complacency.

Your anecdote is not persuasive. I’ve witnessed many gun safety classes and proficiency classes and all but one was beneficial even though most could have been better.
You overestimate the capabilities of the below average novice shooter, by a lot. Simply teaching the cardinal rules effectively is a huge benefit.

Wait, are you arguing for or against training requirements? It sounds like you are in favor of more training.

Have to take a course to hunt but don’t have to take one to carry a pistol and possibly use it in public… makes sense!
You have to take a course to get a license to kill animals, not to buy the gun that is used. Your analogy doesn’t really follow an apples to apples comparison.
And just fyi, I’ve bought out of state hunting licenses many times, including Louisiana. I took a hunters safety course when I was a kid but not once have I been asked for proof when buying a license or by a game warden. I honestly wonder sometimes if that “requirement” is even enforced anywhere. I’m almost 40 btw and have been hunting since I was a teenager so this isn’t exactly new thing either.

Problem is u can’t carry across state lines even if they constitutional carry and I can’t carry until Louisiana even though Bama also has constitutional carry. Fix that too please.
The problem is you don’t get cards to prove it etc
