Today, the Senate passed Senate Bill 1, NRA backed constitutional carry legislation, on a 28-10 vote. The bill will next be considered in the House.

How can you concealed carry a pistol at 18 but can’t purchase one until your 21… doesn’t make any sense.

You might want to wait until the House passes it and the Governor signs it.

Constitutional carry should be federally legal in all 50 states. I don’t care what any suburban white women who votes blue has to say.

Notice how the people who are the most anti-gun have never even touched a gun in their life and know absolutely nothing about them?

Exactly.

I bet if you asked one of those anti-gun teachers who was cowering in their classroom when a school shooting occurred if they wished they had a gun to protect themselves and students, every single one would say “Hell yes!”

The problem with constitutional carry is there's no way of knowing how proficient the gun owner may be. There's two general ends of the spectrum.

First time owning a gun? Take lessons from a firearms expert, learn how it operates, and learn that pulling a gun can be in most cases a last resort. Think before you engage.

Former military with a combat infantry MOS and combat experience? I trust them not to accidentally blow my head off during a chaotic event.

With CCP's we had a way to ensure the holder had basic proficiency. Constitutional carry eliminates that.

You need a license to drive a car and demonstrate proficiency. It should be the same for a dangerous weapon capable of ending life, deliberately or accidentally. Like a car.

Let the downvotes rain in.

Here’s an upvote.

The idea of living in a society where most people are responsible, and respect the heavy responsibility of learning how to use a firearm and the good judgement to not use it unless absolutely necessary has long passed us by.

Perhaps the vast majority culture of responsible firearm ownership will return out of necessity with this law being passed. I hope it gets here sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, requiring training, even with it’s pitfalls, is worth considering.

You think only LEO and military should have guns? That’s what the whole anti-gun argument revolves around. It’s not about “gun control”. It’s about disarming citizens and putting all of the firepower in the hands of LEO and military personnel.

So you felt the need to say the same thing on two separate threads?

I’m sure the hoodrats in south Chicago who have glock switches agree with your statement. And Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the country, yet it’s in the top 10 most violent cities in the US. Criminals don’t give a frick about gun laws, they never have and never will. Law-abiding citizens should have the right to defend themselves in the public. Period.
