I lived in Park Forrest in the 90s too. On Grand Teton. Went to Rendes quite a bit. I bet that neighborhood is a shite hole like the rest of Baton Rouge now. Sad.

For the Park Forest folks, Video Co-op was the only store in the area that was not robbed during my time there for 4 years. I remember the AG store the owner got pistol whipped the last time they were robbed and he shut it down right afterwards.
I guess the criminals wanted to rent their movies so the never hit us. We were probably a much easier target than they realized.
Camera in the back room was put in because the pervs were jacking off back there or they would take apart the VHS tapes and steel the reels out of them and then bring home and put in another VHS tape. That was all done before I got there.
Also, we had an awesome game of Co-Ball that we played when it was slow. That started before I got there too but it came about because of the Sandlot video promotion that came with a bat and ball.
On Fridays and Saturdays, all our friends would meet at the Co-op with beer while we would close up and then we would all go hit the usual bars at the time.
Like I said, "One of the best jobs I ever had". Minimum wage sucked but we had fun.

In the flood of 78 Greenewell Springs Rd. only had a few spots of dry land between the Amite River and Joor Road. The Howard Brothers and TG&Y had water almost to the top of glass windows

I remember the 83 flood very well. I don’t remember the 78 flood.

We ran a bateau down GSR getting people out that lived down Flannery. Hurricane Creek flooded a lot of BR in 83

I grew up there too, but in the 80's mainly. It's not as bad as I thought. I was there over the summer helping the elderly parents of a friend who still live there. The neighbors look out of one another and seem to be a tight knit community. While the race is different, the caliber of person who lives there is still great. They made harsher comments of some hood rats driving down the street than I would have, I was surprised those types of comments were thrown out there after only meeting me a few minutes prior.

Just pulled up the address in Park Forest I lived at on Google. The house looks like it needs to be demolished

My old childhood neighborhood in Central is looking rather rough these days too. The flood did not help. It was a nice place to grow up in the 80s though.

Yeah East ridgewood off Frenchtown don’t feel like it use to in the 80’s and 90’s. Sure country roads,Georjees and frenchtown acres ain’t much better.

i just recently drove through Biltmore where I grew up. Still looks like alot of the same people live in there, but you can tell that its starting to go down. Lots of houses with no landscaping, needing paint, down fences, etc. Man that was an awesome neighborhood to grow up in. Daylight to dark we were at each others houses or hanging out in the "pits". I dont think kids will ever have that experience again like we had back then.

No but the stray dog and cat population plummeted when they were open.

Nope. It’s black middle class people who keep their grass cut and have pride in the area.

Those plate lunches.
They even had a little rack of videos you could rent there. I'll always remember this one being available:
