He’s drinking half a pint per night, not a whole pint.

A half pint, 200 milliliters, will yield four shots.

A pint, 375 milliliters, has eight shots.

A liter has 22 shots.

A magnum, 1.5 liters, has 33 shots.

A half gallon has 39 shots.

A double magnum, or a Jeroboam, has 67 shots.

A Rehoboam, 4.5 liters, has 101 shots.

So if he drinks exactly half a pint per night, he’s drinking 4 shots per night. I added the 5th shot for a bit of overage.

Every night is probably too much. I would never drink that way because due to my tolerance it would stop being fun.

That's where I was for about 5 to 7 years. I am definitely an alcoholic. I have come to the conclusion that I'm going to slip up at least once or twice a year so I don't get down myself about it anymore. But that shite is serious, death from alcohol is a slow horrible way to go. That shite is poison.

I’m over 2 years in and am not tempted at all. But I drank enough beer to do serious damage, but got very lucky and bloodwork showed everything was fine.

I was that way for about 10 years but quit drinking for a year or so. I'm fortunate I can have a few here and there and be fine though. Cigarettes are a different story. I quit a long time ago and can never smoke one again. Between xanax, alcohol, and cigarettes, cigs were by far the hardest to get over for me. I know my dad was a hard drinker for probably close to 30. He's in his mid 70s and I swore he wouldn't make it to 50, which is my age now.

Dad quit drinking about 20 years ago.

Yeah luckily if you stop early enough the liver is the only organ that can miraculously bounce back. I had very little damage to mine and now it's perfectly fine. But you definitely start to feel that shite.

Health wise anything over 2 drinks/wk has shown to increase many risk factors. So yes, too much.

Eta

That's not meant to be a judgement, I tend to drink about 2-3 per week myself

The recommended amount of alcohol per day is zero

I drink, of course, but a pint of whiskey a night will undoubtably shorten his life and cause a shitload of health issues eventually.

Sounds like you are writing my life story lol. I was addicted to all three also. I had to go to medical detox or risk dying. Weirdly enough, I used to only smoke when I drank, then when I quit drinking I started smoking everyday. Going to be hell to kick this habit.

I wouldn’t consider it healthy. You can be a functioning adult and I also like to have a drink or one too many on occasions but drinking any significant amount on the daily is just unhealthy. Sure millions of people around the world do it but that wasn’t the question. Alcohol at the end of the day is still a poison that takes your body some work to cleanse. Give your body a break here and there, you only get one of those.

I’ve been there. That’s too much. The thing is, your body will adjust to it and you’ll feel ‘normal’. Once you’re back on the wagon, you’ll realize how shitty you really felt.

A "shot" isn't fully standardized but 2oz is rare as is 1 oz. The most common "shot" in the US is 1.5oz.

I would consider that an alcoholic. He should seek help.

Well this is the majority response here. Damn, now I feel bad for saying otherwise last night Hell I was laughing about it. Guy I was talking to is a good dude, didn't get mad at me. I'll tell him I was wrong. His brother is a farmer.
