If it’s an option, don’t stay in Colorado Springs. Nice enough town but no different than any big city in the US.
Try to stay in Buena Vista or Salida. If you can’t find anything there head up to Summit County to Dillon or Silverthorne.

I went to Breckenridge in 2019 (September). Nice mountain town and saw a moose not far from downtown just off the road.

Take a look at Estes Park. RMNP entrance is on the edge of town. Durango is a good launching pad for many things such as scenic drives, hikes, train ride, etc. North of Durango you could consider Ouray. Many choices to consider in CO.

If you can stay at the Broadmoor then Colorado Springs is great. The zoo there is really nice and garden of the gods is fun to walk around.
If not staying at the broadmoor then go somewhere else

If I remember from the time I spent in Denver while in the Air Force, the Denver Zoo was nice, Georgetown Railway in Georgetown CO which is off I-70 in the mountains, Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs as well as a visit to the Air Force Academy. Hiking in the mountains, Celestial Seasonings in Boulder, just a ton of things to do in the Denver area.
