I built an AR in 6.8spc. Shooting 120gr SST’s or 115gr Federal Fusions. It’s all about shot placement, but you ear hole them and it’s DRT.

Marlin 1895 in 45-70 Gov

I’m a dealer for thermals and Jager Pro traps, and a shooter myself. Dont F around, get AR-10 (308) and if u want a very good thermal, Pulsar Thermion 30mm, but 50mm even better.
I can’t count the hogs that have been hit and lived with 223, etc.

I second the Grendel.
Biggest problem with the Grendel is ammo being available during emergencies. After Sandy Hook you couldn’t find much. During Covid it was impossible to get. Buddy bought a Grendel AR in September 2021 to deer hunt. Couldn’t find a single box of ammo for 5 months.

Can’t go wrong with .223

308 whacks 'em and stacks 'em.

I'm a .22 mag fan for piggies. Works good and legal some places I like to go when centerfire rifles aren't

Anyone got a rec for a solid .22LR that I can stick a good laser with ease? Doesn’t have to be expensive. No optic needed.
Using for whacking pigs in the trap as quickly as possible

Just bought some starline brass and found the powder mine likes. Have some bullets but need to buy some more when I can find them.

Nah I’m lookin for accuracy. A shouldered rifle works best because we can lean on the top of the trap and shoot. Just want quick, quiet deaths

I have an AR in .223 and rarely use it anymore because too many hogs leave blood trails in the field with no body when you are trying to pick off panicked hogs flying around. Hard for me to hit one in the earhole when it’s hailing arse. I have an AR-10 in .308 and that’s all I use. Except the next time I go, I’m going to use my M1 Garand and see what I can do. I’ll mop up any wounded with the bayonet.

get AR-10 (308)
Probably the all around best choice for hog slaughtering on a budget

I use a both a 6.8spc & 762x39 on hogs as well as 308 and would say nothing puts them down like a 308.
A heavy ar10 with a suppressor equals very low recoil. It’s a perfect gun if you’re going to sit and wait for them.
If you’re going to be hiking a mile or so, I will take one of the others.

I have an AR 10 suppressed. How many can you kill at once? Best I’ve done is 3. There were 6-8 in the field.

3 is not bad. Ive found if u shoot then wait just a sec the others initially may run but they will stop not sure where the shot came from. That will enable u to get more hogs down. Recoil isnt that big a issue.
Now if i just start blasting the others will haul arse & depending what kind of accurate lead i get on them will determine how many i bring home.

There are so many options. All of them great. I use a grendel in the AR platform. I loved the cartridge so much I picked up a grendel in a bolt action. That bolt action is a light, small rifle that rides in our sxs as we tend to the cows.
I really thought long and hard on the 6mm arc for the bolt action, but I could find 6.5 grendel ammo more readily right now. If 6 arc becomes more popular I may barrel swap both rifles.
We don't have "hog problems" as much as some guys. We have them, and take a couple a month. My choice was overall rifle weight with deer and yotes in mind with 500 on in shots being considered. 99% of those being within 300.
I have a 5.56 upper, but hardly use it. It is there only for emergency round shortages.

Yeah I think I got two in one shot

It all depends on your terrain.
When I'm pig hunting along the river banks and swamps, in waders or from the duck boat, I use an 1894P Marlin in 44 Mag. I use it when running them with dogs too.
When we're eradicating pigs from the bean fields and corn fields at night, my Son and I use a couple of AR10s in 7.62x51 with thermals and suppressors.
Day time in the river bottom field my Son has gotten really good with his American Ranch in 350 Legend catching them along the woodline by the feeders. I really like the 350 Legend. When we butcher those hogs there's some serious damage showing ... nice sized wound channels with good penetration using hardcast coated pig pills.
