I was probably 15-16 when my dad left me alone overnight. No young siblings to look after though.

Would depend on the kids, but I'd have no problem leaving my two oldest home alone overnight. Our youngest is too young to be left home alone overnight even with those two.

Bunch of terrible helicopter parents in this thread raising children to be children their entire lives with no sense of responsibility, self-reliance or independence.
If you aren't willing to leave those kids home alone with your 18 year old, and I mean really home alone...no cameras or life 360 nonsense, then you've failed as a parent.

Brother, that is him to a T.
He can be the best kid to have around, he will help change the oil, cut fire wood or work beside me all day long.
He is great as long as i keep him focused but the min he has nothing to do you better look out, some shite is going down.

I don’t see a problem leaving him here overnight with his brother (15) and sister (11) but the wife is pushing back.
Good. She should. This is generally a bad idea.
Wut? An 18 year old can't handle a night with their 15 and 11 year old siblings?

He sounds awesome tbh
As a teenager he would have probably been my best friend, as a parent he will probably be the death of me.

What says the OT? The wife is overreacting, isn’t she?

Man, if your 18-year-old is not responsible to keep himself and two siblings alive for one night without your supervision, you and your wife have failed as parents.
Sorry to be so blunt, but YOU came here seeking opinions. That is my opinion. Hell, your 15-year-old should be able to handle one night without you at home and no other adult around.
18? Untrustworthy or unreliable with his two siblings? That's a parent failure.

It depends on a lot of factors.

But you said it's generally a bad idea. Why?

He is an adult. It’s your kid so you know them better but I’d trust your kid over someone else to watch them. With cameras and tracking in phones it’s a lot harder to get away with stuff than when I was young. We were left alone for weekends many times growing up and just had family come check on us or bring us food.

We were camping alone younger than that
Yep, as soon as I turned 16 my friends and I (also around 16) would go camping alone (i.e., without an adult).
