Had the same Coach (Nazi) from grade school into high school.. This guy would yank your hair that put some of these ghetto fights to shame. I saw him throw a kid into a Coke machine. He is in late 80's and on facebook and wants to be everybody's friend.... Eff that assho...

If you were acting up. A teacher would send you out into the hallway A coach would walk by soon enough. Ask why you were there. Confirm with teacher. Get paddle. Light my arse up and let me back into class

That’s what they did to us too. If the teacher got real pissed they would send you to the office and hit that intercom button and tell the office you were headed there. If you were cutting up in P.E. the coaches would run you the entire period. Talk about get in shape. Some of those coaches would not feel like doing an activity so they would make up some BS that some kid wasn’t doing pushups properly and make the whole class run or do something that was strenuous and sucked. In high school they quite beating us. Instead they would throw you in detention. Nothing sucks more than staying until 4:00 PM to get out of school. The more you cut up the longer your sentence would be. They had Saturday detention from 7:00 AM to noon and that sucked especially if you were hung over. They would throw you in detention for weeks or months if you were a consistent frick up. Personally I would have rather been beat with a paddle than do hard time in detention. Good times I miss those days. I occasionally will run into old coaches, teachers, and principals and we always would chuckle about how bad I was.

Note: They often would call your parents in the evening then you got your arse whooped by good ole dad or mom.

I laugh at this. Today, if you mention calling the parents over some misbehavior at school, most students are like, “Please do,”. Of course, they’ve already texted their parents some lie about what really happened.

Yep. I was fortunate enough to not have had a personal encounter with it, but I sure enough saw it.

I am not a boomer. I am gen x. When I was in elementary school we had an assistant principal named Mr. Jack. He was this old black man. He had a hand made paddle, that bitch was thick. It was painted purple and it had his fraternity letters on it and he called it purple rain.

Mr. Jack didn't frick around. Our school was shaped like a U and the classrooms were inside the U so when you left out of a classroom you were outside. The office was in a building that was parallel to the bottom part of the U. We didn't have AC in the classrooms so unless it was cold, the doors stayed open. When Mr. Jack whipped kid, he would open his door (the office had AC) and the whole school could hear the kid get their licks.. But he never whipped girls. But after he whipped someone for about an hour you wouldn't hear anyone talk.

At recess he would walk around the playground with his paddle and you always knew where he was because that part of the playground wasn't making too much noise. If people got into a fight, Mr. Jack wouldn't run and get all worked up to break it up, he would just walk on over, break em up, and it was always "he started it" and he would always say the same thing "I don't care who started it, I am about to finish it",

A few years after I was out of elementary they had to stop whipping kids then you would hear "these kids are out of control".

Our disciplinarian was a homosexual. We would have welcomed a paddle.

My middle kid is full of piss and vinegar. He’s not a bad kid, but he struggles with impulse control. His second grade teacher despised him and wrote him up for everything. She called me one day livid because she told him he was about to be sent to the principal’s office, and he laughed at her. That’s the logical conclusion of removing paddling from schools. I’m doubtful if paddling is actually a true deterrent for most kids. But I promise you that when I was his age I wouldn’t have laughed at the idea of being sent to the principal’s office.

At a reform school in Okeechobee FL. (1960's) they had a detention center where selected individuals had rags stuffed in their mouths, hands and legs were tied to bed posts, and counselors would beat their butts bloody with straps impregnated with lead. The kids were locked up in solitary confinement for a few days so their rear ends could heal somewhat. After the beatings they would be taken to the onsite hospital and the nurses would pick pieces of underwear out of their bloodied butts. Their rear ends had splotches of yellow, purple, green, and red. It was grotesque.

I got whacked with a paddle a few times a month and I was straight A student and captain of the football team, but they would come up with some bs but basically they did it for fun. Football coach got me a few times. It was no big deal, I took it as a badge of honor. Often we got choice of detention or 3 licks. I always took the licks, it was quick and over.

All the cool kids got their asses best back then. I remember the girls bitching that we had a choice and they didn’t.

As an interesting side note, I would have got my arse beaten just like in dazed and confused but the high school frat phi kappa got banned the year I started high school. Then when i pledged frat in college, they stopped paddling the year before. I still got whacked a dozen times or so but that’s way different that 100 actives giving you licks in one night etc. the blood would get into jeans so bad they would have to cut them off.

Fortunately, for us, they went way overboard the year before us and sent a bunch of kids to ER so it was expulsion ban if you were caught my year so we only got paddled during hell week by a few drunk actives.

My Dad even threw me throw a well one time too. I was mega pissed but it didn’t frick up my life. I was being a dick and he lost it. I had to fix the damn wall too. Guess what, I didn’t “bow up” on him again for many years. Or as they say now, I fricked around and found out that 6 3 225 can beat 6 foot 165.

Back then you fought all your friends, etc. I am no big fist fighter but I was still in a few dozen fights. If I got them or they got me in a headlock, sleeper etc or you got knock out etc, it was over. You conceded, or if you knocked him out you ran got him some ice etc.

I even had a fight where we agreed no punches to face. We still bloodied each other pretty good. (Neither one of us really wanted to fight, as we were good friends, and it was hours after the blow up but we didn’t know a way to not lose face. ) it was because he called me out in PE softball game and I thought I as safe. We always shook hands and called it over, although not always the same day.

It was just hormones, sexual tension etc. I guess with all the females hormones that doesn’t happen
