re: Is Ole Miss this season going to be our hardest game to win?

2024 is by no means an easy schedule. But you can argue it is favorable. I suspect the preseason top 5-6 of the SEC will look like this:
1. Georgia
2. Texas
3. Alabama or Ole Miss
4. Alabama or Ole Miss
5. LSU or Missouri or Tennessee
6. LSU or Missouri or Tennessee
7. LSU or Missouri or Tennessee
LSU doesn't play Georgia, Texas, Missouri, Tennessee or even an Auburn team that could be a sleeper. Alabama and Ole Miss are both in Baton Rouge, along with Oklahoma.
Of the SEC road games the only team that may be ranked in the preseason top 25 is Texas A&M. It seems like Arkansas is going through just a wasted, lame duck year with Pittman. Sun Belt Billy is getting pounded at Florida and he may not even be on the sidelines by the time they play LSU. South Carolina is an underrated venue, but who in the hell is going to play QB for them? They couldn't beat anyone with a pulse last season. A&M may very well be a better coached team this season, but they've lost quite a bit of talent/production.

Well beat them. Ole Miss always chokes against us when they are highly-ranked and favored to beat us. See 2014 and 2022.

Anyone saying no is dumb and also very stupid.

Quit buying the ole miss hype.
Their best season ever, they were Co-SEC West champs

Ole Miss is going to be good. This is their year, at least that's what is in Kiffin and company's mind. Don't underestimate anyone.

USC was 5-4 in the PAC-12 with Caleb
It's a short timeline, but they just hired an elite DC that is going to be a boost for them, and their new QB looked really good in their bowl game. If they still had Grinch I would be feeling much more confident. Given that this is Nuss's first big start with the offense, and Kelly's track record in openers, I think it could be a little clunky in an odd setting. We are 6 point favorites last I looked but this is could be a somewhat difficult game.

If Ole Miss wins anything meaningful this place will be insufferable, A&M level insufferable.

Right now, it’s USC, because that one is up first.

Well I guess that settles it.

Not buying it. They’ll be undefeated going into the game because the front of their schedule is a cake walk.
I bet they’ll be top 5 by that point. Only to have their season ruined in Baton Rouge yet again.
Toughest game for LSU will be Bama. Don’t count on Debeor just sucking and them not being relevant. A&M on the road will be a challenge. They’ll get up for that game regardless of their record.

I’m in favor of a week 0 game in this case. Would love to get one of the cupcakes shifted to week 0

ATM on the road won’t be easy. Haven’t won there since 16.

That’s probably one of the few positives that Jimbo did in his tenure. He finally got the LSU monkey off their backs.
The A&M loss in 22 was probably the most frustrating one in the entire Kelly era so far. They had absolutely no business losing like they did to them.

Bama and aTm are rebuilds
Bama is still loaded with talent and A&M has pretty good talent (not great), but will be very disciplined and well-coached.
Calling them rebuilds is a bit much, especially Alabama.

I can’t stress this enough, LSU is going to be off the weekend before Ole Miss while they are in Columbia playing South Carolina. Then they get to hit the road again to come to tiger stadium. It’s always been tough to win 2 SEC road games in a row. It really can’t set up better for us in that regard plus the off week. And we have revenge on the mind. Should be a great game.
Yeah I think we get Ole Miss and we might be their only regular season loss.

UGA in the SEC championship game or maybe Texas in the National championship game should prove tougher.
Posted on 2/2/24 at 9:47 am to CatfishJohn
They will end up with 2 or 3 losses & eliminated from playoffs in 1st round.
It's Ole Miss. lucky they play Furman & Wake Forest & Middle Tennessee, but quit acting like they’re gonna contend for the SEC

Texas in the National championship game
Texas definitely isn’t making it to the national championship. They’re soft as baby shite. Bo Davis was their glue. He’s back at LSU now.
Texas will be more on ole miss’s level. Good offense. Ok defense with big holes. Georgia skull drags them at their own place and shuts down any title discussions.

Each of those teams has a QB who has played at a high level, but none of them has done so in every game like Daniels did. Nussmeier has only a limited sample but clearly the ability is there. His play has been similar to Dart in that he makes great throws but forces a couple of throws every game. The team which gets the most consistency at the position will likely prevail.
Milroe won't be able to win big games without the supporting cast from last year. Missouri may have just caught lightning in a bottle this year and may slip a notch but still be good. Tennessee seems to find a way to underperform each year. Texas may end up with a QB controversy if Ewers begins the year inconsistently.
If the new coaches and players can improve the LSU defense to a top 40 level and Nussmeier is the player we believe he is the Tigers could land somewhere in the top 3 which could likely qualify for a playoff spot.
