Just another night of conference basketball? Poor ref staff? Crap load of free throws! Game went to OT.
NW 8 free throws vs PUR 46 free throws
NW 8 free throws vs PUR 46 free throws

Comparing free throw attempts as an attempt to blame refs is lame
Teams that play better offensively will get to the line more, if they’re focused getting points in the paint.
This is the same thing as comparing points. UConn had 99 points and Xavier only had 56 - clearly an officiating bias here.
I’m not saying there couldn’t have been bias in this game but you can’t look at free throw attempts to decide that

Get rid of the refs and just let players call foul like I used to do in the driveway

How exciting. Nothing like a good one sided FT battle.

Its miserable to watch. I refuse to watch any more Purdue games

Seriously, what's the call there. Because the defender's arm came down and potentially made contact? Of course, to make that call, you'd have to ignore the offensive player's arm reaching up and hooking the defender's arm.

In an overtime game, you honestly think there is a planet on which one team hacks to the level of giving the other team 46 FTA while the opposing team plays relatively flawless defense and only allows 8 FTA?

Whenever I see skewed foul or FT counts I always wonder at what point can a coach at least try and chat to the ref about it? Should a coach have to be in that position? Absolutely not. Is it the coach's fault? No. But when it gets to that point does the NW coach go to the refs during the game and ask them the exact question you just asked? I'm not sure that would change how the refs or calling the game but it couldn't hurt.
ETA: It does look like the NW coach did bring it up and was rightly upset about it.

ive never understood why fouls have to be even. Sometimes some teams just foul a lot more.

Is it possible for a team to legitimately only earn 8 FTAs? Absolutely
Is it possible for a team to legitimately earn 46 FTAs? Absolutely
Whether or not these happen in the same game is meaningless

Yeah, I see tons of basketball games that are evenly played to the point that overtime is required to determine the winner, yet one team commits 6X the fouls as the other.

Looks like a Duke stat line.

Have you ever played basketball? This rarely happens because if one team is playing really physical, the other will usually play more physical. For a 6x foul discrepancy to legitimately happen requires one team to play flawless and the other to play recklessly. Given the score and other stat lines, it is obvious the home cooking was on point.
