I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again: this trendy new trend of referring to the speed of football players in MPH is stupid. Football players NEVER run a mile, and they NEVER run for an hour. We’ve always measured the speed of football players by their 40s, and their 100s, because those measurements are applicable and relevant to the game, plus we’ve got a 100 year history with which we can compare. Stop the MPH nonsense!

You don’t understand the application of the stat. And that’s ok. But don’t throw a fit about it

Actually it’s not stupid. There is science behind it. A lot of the time they are testing this in flying 10’s or 20’s and seeing what their maximum velocity is and how quickly they can reach it. You are clearly ignorant, not a coach and not in the industry. I on the other hand am, so it’s best you sit this one out.

It’s too bad they only measure MPH with all of that expensive technology ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconrotflmao.gif)

Genuinely not sure if this is a troll or just someone who doesn’t understand how units work.

Are you serious? I honestly can’t tell. Because of technology, a players actual in game speed can now be recorded. It’s a measurement of speed, so yes it’s in MPH. How is a players ACTUAL in game speed not relatable?

I gave you a tiny upvote...yep, that was me. You didn't use the word "quickness"..you used 40 times being important which they are. Your point is somewhat valid. However, what has changed to make long distances more important than 100 years ago is the passing game. That is why I said "tiny upvote". When running was 80% of the game, quickness was much more important than long distance speed. But with the passing game taking over football, the 100 yard times and mph if you will are definitely relevant.
