It was still raining this morning and they couldn’t dry the track in time to start Xfinity on time and they want the 500 to start at 4:30 eastern

Y’all won’t believe this, but it appears a jet dryer has possibly started leaking jet fuel onto the race track. Most of you will remember a certain Monday night Daytona 500 in 2012 where Juan Montoya hit a jet dryer and caused an explosion and subsequent fire in turn 3.

I remember. And Montoya gets entirely too much blame. Part breaks when he's at speed and the car takes off.

And I stand by what I said when I said NASCAR can't catch a break.

It appears something has happened to a jet dryer in turn 1 not sure if it's a fire or fuel leak

Two jet dryers collided... no word on any injuries.

Five drivers are running both the Daytona 500 and the Xfinity Series race, meaning they will run 800 miles today.

- AJ Allmendinger
- Daniel Suarez
- John Hunter Nemechek
- Riley Herbst
- Anthony Alfredo

I'm intrigued about how SVG will do tonight. Looked good in qualifying.

I wonder how many people camping at Daytona had to make a beer run last night or this morning?

Saw it live and chuckled as the talking heads just kept babbling about some inane thing having not noticed the massive fireball out on the track.

Dave Blaney would have won the Daytona 500 that night if the race had never resumed.

I'd be looking for an out for the Xfinity race. That's a long day. Most people don't understand how mentally and physically exhausting it is to drive at speed and have to watch everyone else at the same time. Most tracks you get kind of a mental break during long runs.

Allmendinger, Herbst, and Alfredo are all racing for Xfinity points. It sucks for those guys but they're kinda stuck.

Suarez and Nemechek are in a different spot. Wendy's wanted Suarez in the 14 for this race. Nemechek and Almirola are splitting the ride. If Almirola was on standby they could switch, but highly unlikely.

Allmendinger, Herbst and Alfredo are full-time in the Xfinity Series, so they have to run the race.

Yeah, I get that. I'd be trying to find someone to sub in for me. 1st caution, my arse is on the plane heading home.

Imagine if one of them wins the 500. How do you even celebrate if you have to get back in another car for a 300 mile race an hour later?

I remember in 2004 the Busch Series race got postponed to Monday. Dale Jr. won the Daytona 500 on Sunday and then won the Busch race on Monday. He didn’t get to drink as much beer as he would’ve liked to after the Daytona 500, but at least he had like 15 hours between races.

That makes no sense? They signed a binding contract. Unless hurt if they bailed then they would never get a ride again as sponsors wouldn’t want them.

They knew exactly what they signed up for. And since it’s their primary points series they want to control the outcome. These are conditioned racers not some old fuddy duddy who needs to be in bed by 8pm.

Being the first and biggest race of year they are ready to race not go home early.
