The true cost of solar panels exceed the lifetime savings on your electric bill.
They're only a good deal if someone else pays for them.
Or if you live off grid with a small electrical energy footprint in a place with a lot of sunshine.

I'm not sure if you are comparing running a generator vs a solar panel for outages
Yes. Having an inverter on the battery to power to run up to 30amps. Night time might be a problem, IDK, but portable generators suck and standbys are $10K and you need NG to the house.

Who cares? That's so stupid and shortsighted. Imagine if the government paid $100 for a 12 ounce can of Coke and gave it to you free. Whoopie, you have a free Coke! What a great deal!

Probably a good hurricane. And how dangerous would it be when strong winds pick up these panels and sends them flying around?

Then too there are the vulnerability issues. They don't do well in hail storms or hurricanes.

Ya'll love to hate on solar but mine paid for themselves in about 5 years.
So did mine, but I had $20k in government kick backs. It’s the only way it’s worth it.

Not arguing that. I'm just glad you're finally understanding the actual discussion.
I'm proud of you.

Becuase shingles do great in hail storms.
It boggles my mind how much the OT despises any kind of technological progress.

When a case of shingles costs more than a quality solar panel, let me know.

If you weren't so stupid you'd realize I ceded that point in my first post, the third post in this thread.

It's real simple.
The true cost of solar panels exceed the lifetime savings on your electric bill.
They're only a good deal if someone else pays for them.
The point is of such little value it hardly deserves mention.

Well that’s not right.

This is simply not the case. Technology improves over time. Thanks to early adopters, we get to see the problems. There is no reason why we can't question the worth, performance, or issues with new stuff.

Properly built systems don’t have any significant issues in storms. It’s depends on the installer and quality of racking.

We do it with literally every new piece of technology that comes out. Why are solar panels and EVs off limits?
Posted on 1/29/24 at 2:05 pm to teke184
Nah I don't think I will.
News flash kids, new technology is expensive then it gets cheaper and better. But I somehow always forget that the average OTer has the foresight of a toddler.
The fact is that most people here align themselves with the right and see environtalist as a leftist movement therefore we must attack the technology of solar and EVs and call it stupid. It's just childish. Fighting against subsidies and tax breaks makes sense. Assuming that Solar and EV technology will remain static is just retarded.
We on the right are supposed to value independence and self reliance. You could get Solar rooves(assuming you live in a sunny part of the country) and an EV that plugs into your home and never have to stop at a gas station and not be beholden to giving money to electric company that has a monopoly on your area. But nah man, let's stick it to the tree huggers because those bitches don't shave their armpits and we don't like them.

We do it with mature tech. Oil and gas get incalculable subsidization, the DOE subsidized the development of the ford eco boost (how many of you baws driving doe-150s?)

They're not "off limits" - they are currently cost prohibitive. When panels last 60 years, are resistant to damage, and cost $20 each - they'll be a great deal.
