I actually tried to write it like that in the thread title but I ran out of room and the quotation marks had to go.

I mean, Paul was kind of a jerk. What was the word that was yikes? Been a while since I read Corinthians numero uno.

There isn’t a mainline denomination with a woman pastor and there isn’t a mainline denomination that would act like Paul is “yikes!”

Which word is the one hanging you up?

The only mainline churches are those with Apostolic succession. Not one of them have or would consider women as preachers.

Protestants are not mainline, they are made up. All 33,000 plus of them.

That's your boutique definition. It's not the standard definition. If you hadn't been impolite I would have done the google search for you and given you examples of mainline denominations in America

The church i grew up in, southern baptist, women only participated as teachers and the choir. No deacons much less a pastor/preacher. Not sure how common that was/is as I've since figured out organized diety worship isn't for me.

I mean, if you base his teachings on the letters that are only attributed to him, I could see why you'd think that. But Paul didn't write all of the letters that bear his name in the Bible. Biblical scholarship has already determined that based on the age and tone of those letters in relation to the ones they are certain he wrote.

It’s an interesting issue She’s talking about 1 Corinthians which is widely recognized as authored by Paul. However, I seem to recall hearing that there are respected scholars who believe that particular passage is a later addition.

I’ve listed to a few Great Courses on the New Testament, early Christianity, and the books that didn’t make it in. A lot of history that I don’t know growing up. Interesting stuff to me.

Not one thing in that entire statement is correct.

Most mainline denominations buckled under Feminism jettisoning orthodox belief and most have “ordained” women not only as “priests” and “pastors”, but “Bishops” as well. And much, if not most, of what the Apostle Paul taught is wormwood and gall to them.

I couldn’t hear or get a clear reference on which reading from 1 Corinthians gave her the Yikes. Is this it?
For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.1 Corinthians 1:22-25

Re: The Great Courses. Hopefully you can find time to listen to some Christian teachers to balance out Bart Ehrman’s atheism.

I immediately lost interest in hearing anything more to be said when that so-called pastor said her "Pronouns are she and they".

You immediately lose all credibility in my eyes when that is part of your introduction to the assembly.
