Why would someone that was getting his arse beat, known to carry a gun, retreat to his car?
We will never know will we?
Hayes shot him 7 times in the BACK.
No evidence at all that Will ever had a gun in his hand. But its a fact that Hayes did.

Call a billboard lawyer instead of unloading a clip into somebody's back.

Yeah bc that is the first thing that comes to someone's mind when they are in a wreck, late at night, with someone walking back to his car to retrieve a gun

If Smith was a regular man, who worked a boring 9 to 5 job, Hayes would be a free man bc he defended himself

Justice was not served. Free Cardell Hayes. He stood his grown
Hayes got out of his car with a gun in his hand after running into Smith following the first incident, you retard. Smith was an idiot that night, but he had every right to get his gun in case he needed to protect himself from an armed man who just ran into his car. But of course, Hayes did what thugs do and he murdered Smith.

Will Smith and his entourage caused this, but Cardell is still guilty.
If the roles are reversed, Smith walks.
Disagree:
If Will chased him down, confronted him, & ended up shooting him in the back several times he's in jail right now.
On the other hand, if Will shot him after being chased down & confronted, he would walk. Same for Hayes if it played out that way.

this has got to be the dumbest fricking comment to date
quote:
The man who gunned down New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith after a traffic accident in Louisiana has again been convicted of manslaughter, nearly eight years after the footballer’s death and three years after his previous conviction was thrown out.
Jurors deliberated for about five hours before they returned with a verdict just after midnight on Saturday, finding Cardell Hayes guilty of spraying Smith with bullets after a collision in New Orleans’ Lower Garden District. Hayes is facing 40 years behind bars and is slated to be sentenced in March.
During the days-long trial, which included testimony from nearly a dozen witnesses, the defense argued Hayes shot Smith in self-defense and that he feared for his life during their confrontation on April 9, 2016. John Fuller, an attorney representing Hayes, specifically pointed to a 911 call made soon after the shooting in which his client can be heard claiming Smith stated he intended to get a gun from his car.
Prosecutors meanwhile contended that Hayes intentionally rammed Smith’s Mercedes with his Hummer that night, sparking an argument between the two that would end in deadly violence. They acknowledged that Smith was intoxicated at the time of the crash as well as the fact he had a gun in his car — but prosecutors also emphasized there was no evidence to suggest Smith was armed or fired the weapon at any point during the incident.
“One gun was fired by one man,” District Attorney Jason Williams said during closing arguments on Friday, waving the evidence-tagged handgun Hayes fired. Smith was struck eight time — seven in the back — and his wife, Racquel Smith, who was in the car at the time, was also hit in her legs.
So, please explain, with evidence, his innocence for self-defense. If Smith indeed pulled a weapon from his vehicle/person and was attempting to point it, with aggression at the suspect, then I'd agree. But I don't think that was the case. I believe Hayes was premature as well as excessive in this one. Sorry

You can't shoot an unarmed man in the back 7 times and claim self defense. Fuller is a joke for trying to use this defense to get Hayes off. Even if Smith said he was going to his SUV to get a gun, Hayes has to get in his Car and leave. That's Hayes' responsibility. He wasn't trapped in an alley with no exit.

You can’t just shoot someone because they MIGHT be packing. He should have fled, not confronted him.

I am glad Big Freida wasn’t on the jury, otherwise it would have been 11-1 and we would have been doing this all over again.

I saw Will Smith that very day at FQF. Was shocked to wake up and see he had been killed. RIP. Life is cheap in Nola.

Will Smith Jr is now a freshman defensive tackle at Ohio state.
Which would’ve made him about 10 yrs old when all this happened.
Time flies. RIP #91.

Smith should have stopped but also Hayes should have also stopped right there and called the cops and let the insurance company handle the damages. He’s where he deserves to be

What a ridiculous waste of time, expense and resources when he was already convicted once based on laws in existence at that time.

The law dawgs in LA need to do better work on the jury pool. Thats it.
