If you watch the play I think it was designed to get her a look from 3. They drove and immediately spun and flipped her the ball so the expectation was a shot. Hence, “Shoot the ball, Hailey!”
Unfortunately, the pass was a little off and Hailey couldn’t get into the shot before the defender recovered. Thereafter, she just made a good play on the drive.

The team did not play better without her. She moves the ball around better than anyone else. she did miss some shots that we all would have liked her to make and can make passing errors but she did make some needed big shots at times and again we don’t have anyone else on the team that handles the ball and moves it around between players. I thought they played hard. Angel Reese doesn’t seem to have the stamina to play a full game which is understandable and she did give up a cheap foul for her fifth. You would have thought she would have had some more awareness of fouling out. She is a great player though and we aren’t the same team without her. I think we had a chance if she didn’t foul out. I think we could play better and shot with a higher percentage rather than relying on layups and Kim may figure this out for the tournament. Wouldn’t be surprised to see S Carolina again.
