The Duck Commander Crew claims this was the worst they've ever seen it
Probably correct for the DC crew that hunts over on Phil's place. They had no water and pretty well had to hunt the only water they had daily cause they very rarely miss a day. The upside is they got enough water to hunt right when the weather turned cold and had some pretty good hunts through the freeze. I think Martin, who hunts separate from the main DC crew over on 15 with Clay, did better. Obviously they had water but struggled like lots of folks on 15 after first split because they were hunting stale ducks. I haven't heard what they did over the freeze but if they were able to keep some water open over on Pin Oaks, I bet they hammered them.

Hunted Terrebonne parish. As far as numbers go, this was the best season we’ve had in the 25 years we’ve hunted here. 508 ducks - 41 hunts. Probably 70% ringneck ducks.

quote:Right up the canal from you and had similar results. Though I won't say the best. It was decently average for us. Not nearly the big ducks we usually have and never got the huge concentration of ringers staying on the lease. But we did kill the shite out of them. Didn't track numbers but we had 2-4 man limits on every hunt except the first 2 weekends (mainly because it was all Dogris before the ringers arrived). Whistler and wood ducks kept us happy the first split. Banner year for them.

Didn’t get to hunt in marsh until after Xmas. Ringers were guaranteed in certain blinds. The rest were a crap shoot, they killed grays earlier in season. They mostly disappeared. This last weekend was great Sat, shitty Sunday. Mostly teal, few grays and wigeon and some lost ringnecks landing in 4” of water.
And we still have wood ducks down there. Starting to thin out with the water rise.

quote:This is the best description of this past weekend. My pond had maybe 2 inches of water and several decoys on mud flats. I had to move to open water to find that 4" depth where birds would a dually work a little.

I want to know where all the fish go. We did have some dead crappie behind our weir. Guess they couldn’t get out.

How did duck season go? I killed 2 8 point bucks. First time in 55 years I did not kill a duck.

The 14 or so days I had in Kansas were complete GARBAGE.

Good number of teal in Point a la Hache area this past week. Lots of dos Gris per usual.

Been such a weird season in Central TX. Birds, just not in numbers. And really spotty.
Weirdest part is how inconsistent. Could have 100 birds in a hole one day, hunt it the next day and see 3.
Hunted the Brazos river saturday am. From 630-645 Saw 100s of ducks moving. Had about 50 land in decoys. By LST had about 25. Shot 2. And legit never saw another bird in the sky the rest of the morning.
One weekend left for us. I will probably get out once. But don't have high hopes.

Let you know. The first trip to Oklahoma in December was a blast. This last one everything we hunt is still locked up. Has been for 5-6 days. We will see if the birds come back. Last weekend if the season.

Hunted 20+ days in Oklahoma and Kansas. Worst duck season I can remember. Water wasn’t as much of an issue as has been in the past few years. Lack of numbers on big ducks. Shot teal mostly all the way up until the past week or so. Many friends also believe worst year in the last few decades. Hope this is not the new norm.

Yeah, we saw a few dead fish as well. Water was as low as i've seen it in years. Ringnecks still piled in. We had so many pouldo - i think that's what helped keep the ringers around us. Around christmas they had most of our vegetation pulled up, but they never left. I do know of a couple people in the area that had some fantastic hunts. One in particular that had 8 wigeon and 4 grays last week. I'm certainly not complaining. I love ringnecks. It was a hell of a season.

I think so. I think it is one of their primary spots.
Funny story, I work in the pipeline construction business and my former company built a large diameter pipeline for Centerpoint right through Phil's property. We actually drilled the river and also went right through most of the fields on 15 as well. I did the initial take-offs for the job just because the job intrigued me since I hunted with Phil on his place a few times back in the 80's. Anyway, when I was checking the landowner restrictions it amazed me how much property Phil either owned or co-owned with that other dude from the Duckman 2 video. It was rather eye opening and this was obviously way before Duck Dynasty so I imagine he has bought considerably more since then. He also got in a bit of trouble with the Corps when we were drilling the river but that is another story.

Pecan Island.
Pecan Island was garbage.....I heard some jackass broke a levee or opened a weir to let water in and flooded the area with saltwater
Gueydan was pretty good
Wax and Atchafalaya Delta's were complete trash
Oklahoma and Kansas sucked balls

We have 8 days left, most of the season was trash in NEA. We had some really good hunts during the first split and a bunch of very bad ones lately. Killed a bunch of mallards and wood ducks on the river Friday. My buddy killed 30 something yesterday. I'm going to sneak out and pull most decoys and try to get a 45 minute hunt in this evening. I expect from Thursday through the close should be pretty decent.
