What’s to stop a team from targeting the kicker on the first PAT in the Super Bowl?

The thought that your kicker could get it next usually keeps this from happening.

Or your QB. A depth player would break his leg

Usually, the punter, and vice versa.

I think it was Pittsburgh or some team hit a PAT or FG with a non-kicker this year.

The chiefs used Justin Reid, a safety, last year as their kicker with Butker was hurt

What? If that’s your goal, why kicker? Why not QB or coach?

This is why you stash Tom Tupa on your roster.

Just to drop in...Not every team has a Ray Guy.

Ray Guy is not only the greatest punter of all-time...

But he kicked a then-NCAA record 61-yard field goal in a snowstorm during a game in Utah.

He also subbed and played as quarterback for the Raiders.

Those multipurpose guys are long gone.

Dare Ogunbowale. Texans RB. Fairbairn went out with a quad injury in the first half against the Bucs. Dare hit from 29 yd in the 4th with 8:48 left for the Xans to go up 33-30.

No, it's a valid question. Football is a game of rhythm and routine for a lot of things. You count scores in increments of 7 and 3... you take the kicker out and suddenly you're going for 2 after every TD, and not comfortable with your punter trying a kick outside the redzone; whereas you generally consider anthing inside the 35 as expected with your placekicker. And then God forbid he handles the kickoffs too, suddenly your kick coverage is in disarray.

The answer is,
A) like someone answered above, your own kicker is dead man walking if you do it in a game.

B) you only THOUGHT the NFL was severe with the Saints and Bountygate. They would destroy the franchise, up to and potentially the owner being forced to sell it. It would be 100% the most despicable thing done in the sport, and for it to happen in the Super Bowl in front of a billion viewers would be a media nightmare for the sport and the league. Multiple people would never work again at any level, and the fines would be incredible.

No doubt in my mind that Ray Guy could've started at safety for the Raiders. He was an athlete. Dude could throw a baseball in the mid 90's.

NFL coaching circle is small, if someone did that they may be ostracized
