Calling the cops isn't a scary sign.

Going away in the ambulance is.

Just contact your insurance company ASAP.

I can barely see anything because the car is so dirty.

Did the lady look like the type of person that would try to milk your insurance dry. Looks can tell you a lot no matter what anyone says.

The cops? Act like you're tying a shoe and unscrew a schrader valve.

It appears you’re in a parking lot. If that’s the case, you might be good. I don’t know how the law is in Louisiana, but in Alabama if your bump into someone in a parking lot, the cops usually don’t write it up as one or the other driver being at fault. You just let your insurance companies take care of it.

That being said, if she’s rubbing her back or neck, she’s seeing dollar signs.

My SIL got less damage than that and sued because of back issues, etc.
She did lose her case, though.

She probably called the police right away because she suspected your "family member" would flee the scene and/or be uninsured.

The only advice I can give is for whoever was driving to refuse to give their license to the police officer. Tell them you are more than willing to exchange info with the other driver but demanding a license is turning a civil process into a criminal process. If the cop gives you any lip, just keep asking if you’re detained.

Other than that helpful advice, call your insurance company asap and follow their directions.
