Nobody can do it now without bags to drop. Especially with the Elite recruits.
Recruiting skill is out the door now
Lots of downvotes for these two reasonable comments. It is surprising to me. Do people still think that it is about relationships? Perhaps it is, but it is more likely about what school is offering the most money. Seems we're kind of stuck in the past on this board, judging by the reaction to these two posts.

Ole Miss is going all in for 2024, as they should. They have never one anything of substance, this is their best opportunity.
And to be honest, odds are even that it blows up in their faces.

There are some recruits that are going to take the money. Some, that's all they care about, some unfortunately have no choice. They have to whore themselves out to whichever school will offer to get their family out of the situation they're in. There are still plenty of recruits out there that aren't motivated by short-term money and see the bigger picture. Those are the guys that it looks like LSU wants. Do you really think LSU was the highest bidder for Underwood? I don't.

Tell me what's gonna happen in 3years between the 2?
LSU will have “invested” in high end high school recruits that will transfer to other schools before seeing any meaningful playing time.
Ole Miss will continue to work the portal year in and out.

A combination in all likelihood. Relationships still matter and for many, probably most, it's the deciding factor unless the money being offered by a school is an order of magnitude off.
We act like money wasn't circulating before. You think Speedy Noil opted for A+M at the midnight hour based strictly on relationships?
Now, there's just more money out there than ever, with more willing NIL parties since it can be done "on the up and up." That makes kids talk more openly and also make them jealous of the guy next to them in the locker room.
It's got to be a mess for coaches to navigate. That's why you'll see some of the better coaches opt out. Rumblings from NFL circles is that more accomplished college coaches are putting out NFL feelers than ever before. It's a real thing.

The big programs are all going to be putting players in the same tax bracket. Might be 1-2 that Texas absolutely decides they can not let go, that will outbid everyone else for... but you risk blowing up your own locker room with that too. So it will be rare.
99% of the time, you'd be looking at equivalent offers, and will pick based on who you like (as well as "can I play early there").

Plus, Austin Thomas, coming back now to serve as our bagman.
Give those boys $10 million and get out of the way. We will roll in NFL roster out there.

Hope they can coach and write checks because recruiting isn’t really that big of a deal now.
