Alex Hoops: Jordan Hawkins

Another great video from Alex Hoops. It’s incredible to see how much Hawk opens up our offense, and raises our 3pt efficiency.

He’s gonna be great, and I’m excited for his future with this team. What a steal he was.

I love that he is not a set 3 point shooter and really elevates into his shot. He can catch and shoot off a pass or dribble and create a shot. He really does remind me of Ray Allen.

How'd he fall? He isn't undersized. He's a great shooter, maybe not elite like curry but being great is needed in the NBA.

It is so strange. In a league that heavily values moving shooters, to have one of the only guys with that skillset and the best set shooter as well fall almost out of the lottery is pretty crazy. Lucky for us.

This is looking like it's going to be a really solid draft class overall. Most of the top 5 look good, which is actually kind of rare. I'm not sold on Scoot though. 13 points a game but it takes him 13 shots to get it.

Derek Lively looks like a pretty good steal at 12, Brandin Podziemski is looking real good and he was picked 18, Keyonte George at 16, Hawk at 14, and so far the biggest steal along with Hawk looks like Jamie Jaquez Jr who was picked at 18 and has probably been the 2nd best rookie from that class.

He was over scouted and over analyzed. He didn't get to showcase a lot of his abilities because UCONN offense revolving around his offball shooting and UCONN size and defensive system masked his defensive weaknesses and people were projecting him to be Cam Thomas bad at the next level.

People used things like his poor assist rate, his handles, his finishing abilities, his rebounding, his steal rate, his size, and his defense to weigh him down. We're finding out he has much more in his bag than given credit for and his potential is much higher than we initially thought.

The knock on him was he only does one thing well - shoot. This of course completely ignores that the point of basketball is to put the round ball through the hoop.

I don't follow prospects/draft at all, but from what I gather just reading here and Twitter, it felt like he was billed as really ONLY a shooter and couldn't do much else.

Eh, if he truly could only shoot and not much else, it's a valid point in the value of those guys not being much.

Look at a dude like Doug McDermott, elite shooter. Doesn't do much else. So he bounces from team to team, doesn't get huge contracts, just isn't a very valuable player, but is an elite shooter. Same goes for Matt Ryan

By no means am I saying this as a direct comparison, but it seems he was billed a bit more like that, elite shooting potential but doesn't give you much else. But what we're seeing from him already as a rookie is that he has a good bit more to his game than many thought he would.

He was also an older sophomore. If you look back at that draft in the lottery, all the picks before us, all of those prospects were freshman level players even Miller as an older freshman. The demand for high potential young prospects will always been high in the lottery.

Same. From what I heard I was expecting maybe a buddy heild type player who could shoot and do little else, and a guy who might really struggle with the physicality of the NBA as did Austin rivers.

First time I saw him play I was blown away by how active he was offensively and his ability to get to and finish at the rim. His offensive game was far more complete than I expected.

Really appears to be a homerun pick. Assuming we are going forward with BI/Zion, a movement shooter that can warp the defense and doesn’t need a lot of time on the ball to score is exactly what the pelicans need.
