NAIA Football

Louisiana College in Pineville, now known as LCU finished ranked 11th this year in NAIA. LCU is great little school, but I’d compare the football program to not much more than High A high school football.
My point is that I wouldn’t put much stock in Deboer’s record in that league. Probably like a high school coaching record. His D1 and Power 5 record is impressive and that is a concern. I just think the 104-12 record overall is very misleading. 37-9 at the D1 level is what I care about and a national title appearance . Very impressive, but also on a smaller sample size.
Just a point of reference for anyone interested.

An NAIA championship is only slightly better than a madden superbowl.

The more important thing is that the guy has won championships (not just games) wherever he been,

Yes
And Kelly’s record at Grand Valley State doesn’t really impress as much as what he did at Central Michigan, Cincinnati and Notre Dame.

Really
I thought he only won a championship at the NAIA level? Where else?

he's a good hire. he's a good coach. he hasn't faced competition like this before but he hasn't had these kind of resources before.
i'd rather he doesn't succeed but he is a good coach.

I agree.

Kelly was 4-11 vs top 10 in 12 seasons at Notre Dame.
Brian Kelly is currently 2-4 at lsu vs top 10 teams.

He brought Notre Dame back to relevance after years of being an afterthought. My point was more about his track record of long term success.
To be fair, Kelly was definitely not my first choice, but he is growing on me.
Also, I don’t think Brian Kelly’s first two years at LSU would be good enough for what Alabama fans think they will be getting. They may have grown to be a tad bit spoiled.

Did you know Jesus died on the cross for your sins?

Depends on the school and the sport. Maybe that is true in football but other sports like tennis that is not necessarily true.
Example; Georgia Gwinnett College
Most of their players have a HIGH ITF ranking and easily beat D1 colleges. They may have moved up finally to D1.

Did you talk to Nicky about this?

He still did it with his NAIA school and players against other NAIA schools and players, and worked his way up in the process.
NAIA is more comparable to D2 football than anything else. Before NIL, NAIA could give athletic scholarships and had fewer academic restrictions (for reference, only D1 and D2 can provide athletic scholarships in NCAA). NAIA schools compete with the D2 schools for kids out of HS. They’ll also get D1 kids with academic issues, HS nonqualifiers, and JUCO kids who don’t go D1.
At the end of the day, this guy has won everywhere he’s been and there’s typically something to that.

Really! I never would have known that if you hadn’t put it in every thread.

It’s quite amazing Kelly already has 2 wins over top 10 teams during the first two years of our rebuild …. Damn I didn’t even realize he’s already got 2 but you’re right, again thanks for reminding us how bright the future looks at LSU under BK. LSU under Kelly is clearly ahead of schedule.
Thanks for posting, that’s awesome!
