Forgot some deer meat in cooler

Killed a buck last Saturday. I kept it on ice draining twice a day like I usually do. Ended up getting sick so quickly transferred to another ice chest with fresh ice and dropped it off Tuesday evening to process. Finally feeling better today and went to clean the cooler- found a tenderloin and some neck meat I missed. There was still plenty of ice but it was sitting in bloody ice water that whole time. Think it’s still good?? Thinking so but want some opinions. I feel horrible as I hate to waste/mishandle meat especially from something I killed!!

It will be fine if it’s on ice.

Meat is probably still edible but flavor will be highly degraded sitting in water for that long.

Believe it or not but there is a large contingency of hunters that place their deer meat in ice water for many days
I was taught that way as well
It’s not the right way, but many do it

I was listening to the Meateater audiobook about the long hunters today. They told the story of a guy that was lost in the wilderness without food or means to shoot anything. He ended up killing a dog that came up to him, roasted some of it immediately and jerked the rest. He stored it in a pouch of the dog’s skin.
When he was finally found he was still eating the dog jerky, though, as it was described, it was fly ridden and crawling with maggots.
So yeah, you’ll be fine.

Meat is still edible but quality won't be the same as if it were kept dry.

Aged meat, literally wet aged in this case. Some folks pay high dollar for aged meat. Enjoy it!

As others have said, it'll be absolutely fine
