Cars are encased on ice in bessemer, and icicles forming on the gutters. Sidewalk and driveway not frozen yet, but tomorrow should be fun.

Insane level of incompetence that has resulted in at least one fatality so far. The city and state are going to get taken to the cleaners in court after this is all over. Also the LC I-10 bridge is cursed and should be demolished

There’s a dangerous situation in Lake Charles. Several are trapped on the I-10 and I-210 bridges, and on I-10 near Iowa, and have been for six hours or so. Bridges apparently weren’t prepped, nor were they closed ahead of time. People posting on Facebook that they have no food or water, some running out of gas, some no cell chargers to keep contact, and no real updates. Families and young children included. National Guard maybe should be involved over there and heads should be rolling this week on whoever was in charge of planning for this.
The OT is a magical place. You can read a post like this then 2 posts later a guy from French Settlement will come in and say how the country is soft because "them kids should be going to school in the morning!"

Hopefully the local PD and FD can at least get gas to those people so they can keep their cars running.
How does it take that long to clear a bridge? Some baws with some snow chains and tow straps could probably have it done in 2 hours.
Eta: update on ditch truck - I just heard a bang and don't hear loud engine anymore.
Eta2: looks like he got out.

Or people could have some personal responsibility and not put themselves in harms way. The amount of people that don’t pay attention to what’s going on around them is astounding.

I10 open MSY to BR? Just landed and need to (safely) get home.

Probably safer than staying in N.O
I say risk it
I say risk it

Man I got stuck driving through some horrible shite between Amarillo and Dallas in 2018 or 2019. Nothing I could do about it except keep going. Granted I had a 4x4 truck and chains in the bed if I had needed them, but point being I totally get how some naive people get themselves in these situations.

Per dotd, yes I-10 is open to BR

Go for it. What’s the worst that could happen? Frozen gators on the highway? frick em!

1050pm - We are becoming concerned about the potential for a FLASH FREEZE overnight given persistent rain falling ahead of the freezing line. Residual water on roads may rapidly freeze overnight across inland communities, creating dangerous driving conditions & slick sidewalks.

I'd prolly take airline or some other route. The overpasses are probably pretty gnarly by now and BR's finest is probably still all over the roads.

Atch Basin is closed. Not seeing anything on the east side of BR.

Oh yeah I agree shite happens. But everyone makes it out like their life is over if they miss work or can’t delay their plans. I went to work this morning knowing I may leave early and watched the frontal line progress throughout the day.
