Almost all the players you mentioned had proven starters ahead of them. You even mentioning any of the freshman WRs is fricking pathetic and shows your agenda. Heard played enough to show his arse needs to be on the bench until he develops.

I get being patient but at the same time LSU/Kelly honestly can’t afford to sit around and be patient. The DL depth is a major red flag with no dominant portal guys left. It’s not looking great for the rush defense going into next year. Our only hope is to get guys in the next portal window cause this is downright pathetic to be this thin at arguably the most important position outside of QB. Anybody that’s not worried is clueless.

As a rational fan multiple things can be correct. Kelly has hired an awesome offensive staff that has coached well, recruited exceptionally well, and put together a tittle contending roster. As exceptional as that has been, it has been equally a failure on the defensive side. The first staff was questionable from start, though this is currently being rectified with Baker. The failure to recruit SEC caliber DL while there was good talent on the roster has now become a major problem. The 2024 class does have some potential studs but freshman DL rarely contribute in year one. The portal has now been picked over and so the wait for the second round, and hope that some good talent pops. Many have been concerned and rightly so. Defensive backs, recruiting has been okay with more projects than what Tiger fans are accustomed to seeing, particularly at cornerback. The portal has brought in Gilmore- upgrade, Brown- some decent tape, Ausberry- hasn’t played. A lot of bodies but how many will become major contributors? Get the coaching hires right, but time is getting tight on getting portal talent.

that guy was no longer employed by LSU when Pelini was hired in ‘20.
unless you’re trying to throw shade at Woody.
so we can either believe a guy that has made a career of mostly bad hires made a bad hire. very similar to another bad hire he made under a different AD a few years before.
or the AD that is widely respected for landing mostly very good hires (including 2 national title winners here) did.
i wasn’t in the loop, but i can guess which one was more likely.

What we have here is a failure for the now third year to pick up good DT. Now it has come home to roost. I’ve been getting my arse down voted to hell on the recruiting board for saying this.
We had what 83 scholarships minus the 30 that hit the road? So 53 scholarships left and add 27 signees. That is 80 and add what four transfers. That leaves one scholarship for Bussey, which we also need. Class full. I’ve been bitching about some but not all three star recruits and not enough were DLmen. We have an arse load of edge and ends but no beef. I’ve harped on this two years now. You can get by with minimal one year but after that you will pay.
End of Rant

And where is the entire defensive staff that didn’t cut it on the field or in recruiting?
