Hard to believe its been 12 years since the worst day in LSU football history

1/9/12 still has to be the worst day in LSU athletic history. To have an historically great defense, and the most dominate season of all time up to that point come to an end in embarrassing fashion is something I'll never get over.
What are your memories of that day????

I started a thread one minute after you. I've included all my memories in gif form if you'd like to check it out.
Miserable day. I couldn't laugh about it until November 2019.

I still think OSU made that FGA vs. Iowa St.

Extremely disappointing, but definitely not the worst day in LSU football history. It's NEVER the "worst day" when you are actually playing for a championship. Ask anyone who sat in a half-empty Tiger Stadium in the 90's. There were a lot of "worst days" then.
It was a muggy, overcast day in New Orleans. I recall being struck by how many Alabama fans were in the FQ and down Poydras. That became even more evident when I entered the dome and saw it was definitely not an overwhelming homefield advantage for LSU.
The game itself was relatively boring. You could tell early on that Alabama had adjusted their approach from the earlier meeting in November and LSU didn't. It was like watching a slow death. You knew Les was not going to deviate from his approach...even though it clearly wasn't working...and you were just hoping the defense could hang on long enough to allow some sort of flukey offensive or specials teams play to make a difference.
It was a night where the stubbornness of Les Miles was on full display. He flat out refused to do anything different while watching the great season and championship slip away. LSU fans were pissed leaving the game, blaming the corrupt BCS for putting Alabama in the game in the first place. But the reality is LSU fans were mad Alabama was in the game because they knew what I knew. LSU won the first matchup on the razors edge. Saban would adjust. Les wouldn't. So a rematch greatly favored Alabama.

Being so mind numbingly frustrated that Les Miles did nothing to help LSU win or even be compedetive.
Bama crushed our initial game plan and we made no adjustments. Tried nothing diffent. Made no effort to adjust and we all watched a magical season sink like Atreyu in the quicksand.
27 rushes for 39 yards total
Jefferson rushed 14 times for 15 yards
Rest of the team 13 rushes for 24 yards
Jefferson was 11 for 17 passing
92 yards of total offense
Brad Wing punted 9 times
Jarret Lee who was 9-0 as a starter in 2011 and led the SEC in passing efficiency, Sat on the bench. We assume because of his previous outing against Bama in which he went 3-7 with 2 ints. Jefferson entered that game and carried the Tigers to victory by going 6 for 10 with 67 yards. Earning the starting job for the rest of the year.
Not to beat a dead horse

I was blackout drunk from giant tailgate on the steps of the Dome. I made it to a restaurant on Podyras and couldn't tell you one thing from that game.

I believe that date would be 1/10/1980.
RIP Bo Rein
Edit: Date, based on reply.

Most dominant. Dominate is a verb.

I just remember being dumbfounded that apparently Les and his brilliant offensive braintrust had no plan B.
It was obvious in the first quarter that Bama knew what was coming. Hell, it was so obvious that I knew what was coming just based on personnel.
It was amazing that the defense kept it within reach until the back half of the 4th quarter.
That was totally embarrassing and utterly humiliating.
I remember after Les was fired, he was the guest on Gameday or at a particular game. He was asked how to beat Bama. He literally said, "You have to attack their strengths." At that moment, it all made sense, but in a horrible, nauseating way.

Losses to Troy and Miami of Ohio were worse days, IMO.

At least that bama fan got what he deserved for what he did to you.

A number of other players that spoke up for starting Lee were benched for that game. Coach made an example of all of them, even if it meant total disaster.

I didn't end up on Bourbon Street. Unfortunately I threw up somewhere in the Warehouse District

I was at a watch party in New Orleans that had one of those giant inflatable screens and an open bar. Was a fun day until kickoff.
