Especially to conserve redshirt and transfer

I don’t think you would see that unless it’s a player that does get hurt (like one of the Bosa’s) then shutting down rather than come back. Rare are talents that are high first round picks that can do that. Jayden Daniels won the Heisman after LSU had 3 loses and is zooming up draft boards. Those games vs Florida, Ga St and A&M were not “meaningless” in the same way the Corp Sponsor Here Bowl is.
The other thing, and I don’t know why most of you can’t seem the grasp this, the bowls are played 4-6 weeks after the season ends. A few weeks after the semester ends. The regular season has a game each week. A lot easier to keep playing and as Daniels did, have the chance improve your draft position, than to come back and go thru practice and all that a month later for 1 exhibition game

Well said
It’s pretty apparent why transfers and NFL prospects would sit out the whogivesafrick dot com bowl
Just because Saban and Kirby are better at brainwashing doesn’t mean anything in regards to the team FSU fielded today

Bahahahahaha! 1. No program has the balls to try something like this unilaterally because players would go elsewhere and the program would get its arse kicked. 2. It's very possible to make legitimate NIL money in today's world. You're going to take a high profile athlete like Tim Tebow off scholarship because he has a million followers on Instagram?
Not suggesting a unilateral approach and I’m not opposed to NIL. I’m opposed to the lack of any guardrails that have allowed it to rapidly morph into a pay-for-play scheme. Who could’ve seen that coming?
While the SC upheld NIL, they didn’t dictate how the compensation would work. The NCAA missed a chance to say “you will be financially compensated for your NIL… either through a traditional scholarship offer or through a NIL deal. Both offer financial benefit to you. You chose which works best for your situation but you don’t get both.”

99% of players aren’t in a position to opt out and maintain their draft stock.

The players either need to be under contract or they need to stop lowering enrollment standards for football player
It’s not the players Cochise the schools and NCAA are/will fight tooth and nail to keep the players from being under contract

The NCAA should stop letting the NFL/NBA use it as a minor league.
I mean it’s a little late, by like 75 years, for that

When will we start seeing players opt out after their team loses a game or two ??
Or just pull a Ja’Marr Chase and wait zero games before opting out

NIL is paid by 3rd parties, not the school or NCAA. The school and NCAA have fought since the dawn of time not to pay players. God forbid we let them capitalize on their name, much better that we pay coaches $78M to not coach.
Kids on academic scholarships have long been allowed to have jobs while athletes were not. Should those kids have to choose?
An awful lot of self righteousness by you because some kids skip and exhibition game that our sports culture has deemed “meaningless”. Remember that every time some one bitches about a coach that goes 9-3 as “not winning anything” or an 11-2 season and #3 finish as a failure because your team didn’t make the BCS or the playoff. It’s that stuff that made bowls meaningless the kids are just reacting to it.

Amazing how every one has forgotten all the COVID shite that was happening in 2020.

Ask flaco … everyone remembers that sugar bowl.

I actually think this in some form is the ultimate solution. Graduate or get drafted from the school and all scholarships are just that, transfer prior to graduation or opt out prior to being drafted and obligated to pay back all educational expenses.
This WILL NEVER happen- but should have always been the case. The whole narrative of players weren’t able to live if the stipend pre NIL was always nonsense. These student athletes received free tuition, room and board, health treatment and were able to at the end walk away with no debt- unless you play baseball ( an entire different hornets nest with the 11.7). No different than receiving an signing bonus from an employer - fulfill the obligation or they claw back the funds.

Unpopular opinion. Any player that opts out at any point should pay back their scholarship money for quitting the team prior to the end of the season.
The semester is over before the bowl games

The NFL needs to take care of its minor league.
Right now it’s in shambles.

Michael Thomas currently does this in the NFL

It’s actually never been healthier. Tv ratings and attendance are up. The NFL does not give 2 craps about a player not playing in the Corp Name Here Bowl, they are probably in favor or it. They also don’t care about NIL, the portal or conference realignment and whatever else some fans say have ruined it

If they’re not Bama then they might even opt out while still undefeated since we’ve been told win-loss record is irrelevant and only the eye test matters

it's unfortunately inevitable.
