Pizza Hut is laying off more than 1,200 delivery drivers in California.
The layoffs, which will take place through the end of February, come as California's minimum wage is about to go up by $4. Fast-food workers in the state are set to get a pay bump of close to 30% in April as the minimum wages rises from $16 to $20 an hour.
PacPizza, LLC, operating as Pizza Hut, said in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notice that the company made a business decision to eliminate first-party delivery services and, as a result, the elimination of all delivery driver positions, according to Business Insider. The notice was filed with the state's Employment Development Department.
The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act requires employers to give notice of mass layoffs or plant closures.
Southern California Pizza Co., a second Pizza Hut franchise, is also eliminating its in-house delivery services and laying off 841 drivers, according to a WARN Act notice from Dec 1.
The layoffs impact drivers at Pizza Hut locations in Sacramento, Palm Springs, Los Angeles and other cities throughout the state.

Nobody, and I mean absolutely nobody, saw this coming.

Force businesses to raise wages.
Business fires employees.
It's almost like some people knew this would happen. They must have been very lucky with their wizard prediction

If the Pizza Hut CEO can get paid 16 million dollars, then surely it can’t be that difficult to pay workers $20/hour.

These people don’t love America.
Conversely, you don’t love yourself if you’re a Pizza Hut delivery driver.

Corporations aren’t people and don’t think that way. The sooner you realize that the sooner you’ll realize how business works.

I truly do believe CEOs are paid too much, and I'm coming around to the idea that some companies are taking advantage of laws and inflation to make changes they were already eyeing. That being said, acting like CEO compensation and hourly wages are a zero sum game is comical at best.

Food franchises have to raise prices for food that already isn't worth the post-Covid price increases. Companies saw the price increases coming, did not do anything about wrt the legislators and have to live with it. Customers aren't going to pay those prices.

i mean according to the math if he made 0 dollars a year he could afford to pay 400 delivery drivers $20.00 an hour
that's not even half of what they are cutting
are you retarded?

Americans are addicted to shite level food. I live near a Mc D's, Cookout, and Chick Fi Lay and they are constantly wrapped in the drive thru.

It boggles my mind that people can be so ignorant on basic economics.
The CEO is worth $19 million to Pizza Hut.
Delivery drivers aren't even worth minimum wage to the company by definition. If the company could legally pay them less then they would.

Do the math. Go on, do it.
Lets see your work. For once in your life, back it up.
