I'm heading to Cancun in a couple of weeks and looking for recommendations for adventures for the wife and I while we're there. We're a married couple in our mid thirties - not going for the party scene, going to relax on the beach in paradise. The aztec ruins and cenotes seem like a cool day time excursion. What tours/adventures are recommended and what companies have you had good experience with?

Day trip to isla mujeres - rent a golf cart and not the scooters. I didn’t think the ruins were worth it. Save Tulum and cenotes for a separate trip.

As per Keanu Reeves (adapted "beach" for "motorcycle ride"):

You have some morning sex, eat a great breakfast, go to beach, come back, swim, have more sex, eat some more, hang out for a little bit, maybe do some reading, go see a movie, have more sex, go to the bar, have a couple of drinks, see some friends, walk on beach, get home, hang out a little bit, then have more sex. That’s a pretty good day.

Not a golfer.

We normally go to Cozumel and have stayed at the Presidente the past several years. This year we wanted to try something different so staying in Cancun. Normally spend half our days relaxing on the beach and the other days doing exploring: horseback riding, snorkeling, exploring the downtown, and outdoor activities.

You’ll be planning a return trip to the island for an entire week before you even leave

Tours

We used these guys for a day tour the last time we went down there. They created a custom tour for us and it was amazing. We did ruins in the morning and were the 1st people there, went to lunch, and then did a few different cenotes. It was just the Mrs. and myself so we could go at our own pace.

This is a tour we want to do while we're there as well! You did Chichen Itza with the cenotes?

We did Tulum and the Cenotes. We had to get up early, but it was worth it. We had the whole site to ourselves for a good 30 or 40 min. They also provided a tour guide while we were there.

Honestly, I would stay it would depend on where you are staying. Chichen Izta is about 2.5 hrs from Cancun and Tulum is about 1.5hr from Cancun. You can do cenotes with both tours. We picked Tulum because it was closer to us in Maroma.

coba ruins are the best. You can climb to the top. I got there before they opened up and was first in line. I rented the bike and hauled arse to the ruin you can climb on and climbed to the top and got to take it in by myself for about 15 minutes all alone. one of the coolest experiences i have done.

here is an article and info about cenotes near there

we rented a car in Cancun and drove to tulum. Walking thru the ruins is a surreal experience; definitely grab a guide to give you some backstory at the beginning and buy bus tickets to skip the long arse walk there and back

there are tours you can buy with RT transportation from your resort that will include the ruins and cenotes, so that is an excellent option.

If you are adventurous and have wheels, go eat and drink on the beach road, world class dining and a whole lot of crazy (the fun kind)
