Tommyknockers was pretty good too. I think they made a terrible TV movie about it but never saw it

I remember when people were saying this hack is the modern Lovecraft.

Meh. 75% psycho-babble and 25% story (and 80% of those have crappy endings).

his stories are overrated af to be honest

Seriously? Dolores Claiborne is one of my favorite books. He’s a great writer.

The good news is, he writes fiction so no one actually died in any of his books.

Have you ever seen The Green Mile or The Shawshank Redemption?

Pre 1990 Stephen King was hands down one of the best to ever do it. 1990-2000 SK is hit or miss. Post 2000 SK is almost all junk. He gets very preachy. Bush getting elected severely damaged him, and then Trump finished him off.

SK now exists as a self parody.

I recently reread Tommyknockers. The last time I read it I was in high school and wasn’t really very intuned with politics yet. Kings antinuclear power stance really stood out much stronger than what I remembered. Almost to the point of being distracting from the story line. I definitely can’t read any of his newer stuff.

His buddy Don Winslow has an even bigger case of TDS

I read "The Force" and man what a collosal letdown it was. I could tell the guy was a talented writer but it sounded like a liberal screed against guns and police violence. It was a challenge to read and utterly worthless in the end.

Dolores Claiborne

Also one of my favorite movies. Kathy Bates was incredible. He's turned into a nutcase but I always loved reading his books. Salem's Lot is my favorite novel ever and the movie is my favorite horror movie. Rare instance of a book being terrifying and the movie being just as terrifying. A book has never made me scared but this one had me worrying about the windows at night

This thread sent me down a rabbit hole of his books. Dr Sleep was definitely the last I read, published in 2013. Pretty sure I've read all of them previous to 1991. Never read Dolores Claiborne, putting it on the list.

He has a very creative imagination, but his books always seem to need one more draft. I enjoyed them way back in the 80s. I quit reading him after that stupid haunted car novel. I hate that he's a liberal kook.

He is on Epstein’s List

Assuming we one day see the full and actual list, I am curious to see the intersection between Epstein Island visitors and unhinged TDS filled celebrities who bash him nonstop. I think DJT had the list and their fear of him being a “threat to democracy” was really a threat of them being exposed as sexual deviants at best and pedophiles at worst.
