What’s with the inflated perception of Danny Etling on here lately?

There’s a lot of revisionist history going on here.
He was not an elite QB by any stretch of the imagination. He was serviceable during his time here. Nothing more, nothing less.
Some of the people on here are acting like we should have a statue of him on campus and that he should be on the Mt. Rushmore of LSU QB’s. That’s simply not true.
Joe Burrow, Jayden Daniels, Jamarcus Russell, Matt Flynn, Zach Mettenberger, Rohan Davey, and Matt Mauck should be ahead of Etling, and that’s only QB’s from the year 2000 on.

I don’t think anyone put him in their Mount Rushmore of LSU QB’s
but yes, it’s ludicrous to say he wasn’t serviceable for us

I agree with your sentiment, but you more than likely will be downvoted into oblivion.

In comparison to Jennings and Harris, he was Tom Brady. Les couldn’t get out of his own way with offense nor develop a quarterback to save his life.

I just said he was a serviceable QB for us.

Seriously what in the almighty FVCK? Not a single soul is saying otherwise.

Danny Etling was a good QB!
LSU QB Mount Rushmore:
Joe Burrow
Jayden Daniels
Danny Etling
Tommy Hodson
These are facts.

Danny was decent, nothing notable. He manned an inept offensive scheme, and wasn’t a turnover machine. In the same breath, he wasn’t a “gunslinger” by any means, nor could he “kill” a defense with his legs.
Sentiment at the time was that he should remain the started (because he wasn’t a liability) over other “unknowns” and quite unimpressive QBs behind him (namely Brennan, Narcisse, or McMillan)
In hindsight, he might have benefited from a more fluid offensive system, but h exists in a time when LSU was offensively retarded.
Btw, he’s not on the LSU Mt Rushmore of QBs.

Can you give one example of someone calling him elite?

Danny Etling and Max Johnson were decent QBs at LSU! Fight me

Etling was a decent, average SEC qb.
That made him a phenom in the late Les Miles era.

That’s putting it nicely. Have a friend that was a defensive GA that said Les would try his hand at calling the defense some games too.

Absolute disrespect about what that man did. Dude made Matt Canada look good

I wouldn’t call him elite but he was damn tough, and more than serviceable. He was like a less athletic, less accurate Joe Burrow with half the weapons.

I was so close to making 500 of these shirts in purple and gold to sell. I would’ve lost my arse.
