Planning on taking my daughters (18, 16) this summer. Plan on staying in Manhattan.
Any advice on things to see and where to stay. other than the usual Statue of Liberty, ground zero memorial, Times Square, Central Park, broadway, etc….. planning on getting a 7 day bus/train pass

since its girls, there is an Oculus mall by ground zero, and Chelsea market has this underground mall thats pretty decent. grand central terminal is something to see if you've never been, and there is a market there as well. gotta go haggle with the peddlers in Chinatown too.
eta: if they let you in, tea at the plaza with the girls, but its not quite the same in the summer as it is around the holidays.
Six was an entertaining play....if they're above 14'ish its appropriate. nothing really bad about it, just a few innuendos here and there.

get the city pass for each. Cheapest way to see everything. Then do broadway, some shopping and other things that interest you. Kids will want to see Hamiltons grave as well

Shopping in Soho
Broadway Play
Bethesda Fountain in Central Park
Levain Bakery Cookies
Serendipity III at least once
I recommend going into the Statue of Liberty (Crown), but if you just want to visit Liberty Island you would be better off taking Staten Island Ferry for the best views of the Statue.

I agree. Just know that a lot is different since the post 9/11 re-opening. You used to be able to take the ferry out there and just get in line and climb to the top.
Now you have to have a reserved ticket to climb either to the top of the pedestal or go all the way to the top of the crown.
There are a limited number of each per day, and you have to reserve them ahead of time for a specific day and time. You are also very limited in what you can take inside. Purses, camera bags, tripods, things like that have to be stored in lockers outside.
But I will say it is worth it. I got to climb to the crown in the late 80s/early 90s, and it was s super memorable experience. Also got some amazing pictures of the Manhattan skyline with the WTC.

Do not stay in Times Square! After a day you'll get tired of the wall to wall people as soon as you walk out the hotel lobby. You can stay in the area like Madison Ave, 5th, 6th, or north of like 53rd street and you'll have a much more enjoyable experience.
Taking one of those boat tours down the Hudson, around the tip of Manhattan and up the East River is pretty cool as far as touristy stuff. A lot of interesting history and details are learned along the way.

When you go to Ellis Island/SOL take the ferry from the NJ side. The NY ferries had long waits while we had no wait from NJ. We then drove into NYC via the Holland tunnel and stayed in Times Square for a night before moving on up the coast. If we had more time I'd go see the shuttle and ground zero. Both ended up getting cut in favor of a full day at EI/SOL.

Buses can move really slow at times.
It’s a walkable city.
Take in a broadway show.
Ground Zero Memorial is first class, but maybe skip the tour IF anyone is subject to depression. The program is first class, but you can feel the raw emotions creep up. Appropriately, but if I just had a few days, I would pick an art museum and the museum of natural history.
Statue of Liberty is cool. Takes a few hours.
