Weak sauce. Should have gotten a GX from the carpool line.

He went through a rut that was deeper than the his clearance. Of course he got stuck. He should have had one side up on the center between the ruts.

That being said this thing looks like it’s laying on the ground already

Who coined “SUV”. Very gay term.

Dumb arse should have at least put some ATs on it first.

They come off the lot with Falken Wildpeaks, which is a fine tire, I have a set on our 4Runner. The problem is they gave them terrible clearances for what's supposed to be the off-road model.

They're glorified station wagons built on truck frames. However, my wife's (no pics) old Exhibition (F-150) could take a beating.

Toyota's own marketing materials features photos of that exact make/model driving through mud. They even suggested when it was released that the Sequioa TRD Pro was the successor to the full sized Land Cruiser that was discontinued in the US. They were adamant that they brought back the live rear axle to improve the vehicle's off road performance.

Granted, the photos Toyota uses on their website and in the media are highly curated and carefully edited. Because this thing is a big, floppy whale.

They clearly botched the Tundra and Sequioa. They better not have screwed up the new GX.

I'm not optimistic about the new Tacoma.

I am, however, very excited about the new smaller Land Cruiser. It just looks to be more of a 4Runner replacement than an update on the old full sized Land Cruiser that they stopped selling here in 2019.

They probably did all that work to redesign the 4Runner, then decided that they could charge more for it if they slapped a Land Cruiser badge on it and gave it some retro looking headlights.

ETA: Actually the current 4Runner comes with a bulletproof 4.0L V6. So that would be a step down from a longevity standpoint probably. I'm sure it's much better for the environment though.

Yeah the primary competitors come with worse tires, but far better clearance. And they paint the tow hooks red so you know it's a serious machine.

Broke is pretty strong. Nothing mechanical was affected. He jacked up some plastic fascia shite and popped out a fog light that could be popped back into place. He got himself unstuck and drove the rest of his little course without any issues. Even the silly turtling at that hump on the trail which scratched up that fancy aluminum skid plate was handled with ease mechanically.

Of course, the clearance on that thing is ridiculously low for what he was trying to do and the flawed design feature of having said front end plastic trim so low to the ground should be obvious to anyone with a brain looking to buy one for use on that terrain.

Many years ago when Mercedes opened here and started producing the M class they wanted to show how great it was off road.

They built this big track at the plant in Vance and used it to film how awesome the M class was off road. A friend of a friend was (is) a dozer operator and built most of the hills, bogs and other "obstacles". He got tired of the German engineer constantly bad mouthing American trucks, saying the M class was superior in all aspects. Dude laughed at him, got in his 2WD Chevy S10 and drove the entire course without ever getting stuck.

The engineer was not amused. Dude didnt care, but they told him to not return to the job site.

I had bought a new ram 1500 that was fresh on the lot, it didn’t have the bedliner put in yet though so they gave me a comparable 4x4 to drive for a day until mine was ready.

I took the rental off-road around fort Bragg on some 4 wheeler trails and got it stuck at one point but was able to square it away. Wonder who ended up paying for that truck

It wasn't "borrowed", those youtubers get demos all the time to film content with.

That's a mommy mobile. A true off road for that would have a lift.

Yep, looks like my Altima has more aggressive tires and more ground clearance that that thing.

The new LC looks very promising from an off-road standpoint. Has some nice hardware and I think they will be fine there. It’s the motor that is the big question mark for sure. The new GX looks to be the real deal all round though.

Can’t wait for mine. Hoping to get it early spring.
