If nurses across the US simply got paid more then we wouldn’t have a nursing shortage

Kaiser Permanante negotiated a pay raise with a nursing union in California that would raise hourly RN wages to $169.00 an hour.
If states in the Deep South and Midwest would follow suit, then maybe we wouldn’t have such a large nursing shortage. If you want to have a field of nurses that are happy with their jobs and perform their jobs to the highest standard that they can, it’s pretty simple: pay them more. These corporate hospital systems are bringing in billions and billions of dollars. Sure, upping their pay will raise premiums, but in return the customers get high-quality care. It’s a win-win situation.
And by law, ERs have to treat patients regardless if they can’t afford a medical bill. So it’s not like these patients won’t be able to get treatment.
In the Deep South, nursing pay is abysmal. Some RNs start out at $21-$23 an hour. I wonder why all of the nursing talent is going to California?

There's no nursing shortage.
Everyone knows this, except you, I guess.

I think many nurses would be happier by simply hiring more nurses and lightening their patient load.

Defund the Nurses.
They don't need to make 169.00 an hour to make Tik Tok videos.

An ugly(?) little secret about professions dominated by women is that they don't view money in the same way as men.
There's a joke about this that goes something like if you offer a group of men $1,000 a hour then a lot of them will work 70 or more hours a week. Offer a group of women the same conditions and most will work one day in a week or maybe even one day a month.
Which is to say men probably don't balance work and life, believe their reproductive success improves with more money, and tend to socially compete with other men with respect to their income.
Women on the other hand tend to be less willing to do jobs they hate, more interested in work life balance, do not generally believe finding a mate is improved significantly by earning more, and compete with other women over things other than their income.

Did you makeup the 169/hr number? It’s not mentioned anywhere in the article.
Simple states minimum wage for all healthcare works will be at a minimum of 25/hr and Kaiser will give raises of up to 21% by 2027

I cant tell if the OP is satire or not.
If nurses made $169/hr the Healthcare industry would implode.

Where are you seeing that nurses are making over $300k working for Kaiser. As was already mentioned its not in the article. There's not a single nurse out there that's worth even close to that.

I'm sorry.
Nurses are overpaid if anything.
My mom has taught nursing for 25 years.
Her school is in like 75th percentile board passage rate, so a good bit above average.
She shows me exams.
Lots of these soon to be nurses are damn near retarded. I could have done that coursework in high school.
Nursing is by no means an intellectually vigorous field. Engineers, scientists, physicians, could all piss on nurses.

169,000 a year for an RN in the Bay Area is completely plausible. No shot at 169 an hour

I find this hard to believe. No hospital, even in california could afford those rates.
As for down here in nola, the hospitals along the gulf coast have gotten together and reduced the pay for travel nurses substantially. The nursing shortage is absolutely true btw. We were short staffed for years before covid and still are. Me personally I think we are short staffed because no one wants to work bedside anymore. The amount of shite we hear from these entitled patients and their family members takes its toll on you to the point where your like, "screw it, I dont have to put up with this". The majority of patients are not like this, but you would be surprised how many are. As for the tik tok videos these nurses do, I can't stand that shite. So embarressing to my field, but what can you do.

Most of these professional shortages are due to our public school system churning out motherfrickers too dumb to make through the professional classes.
They know pronouns and 139 genders but can't write a sensical report or get 6% into decimal form.
