re: If nurses across the US simply got paid more then we wouldn’t have a nursing shortage

Teachers, Nurses, Cops, etc don’t require top level intelligence. The difference between a high performer in those fields and a low performer in those fields has nothing to do with top talent’s intelligence like it does in many of the high paying fields. It’s 100% an effort issue.
And it’s my opinion that if you gave these people a 20% raise, you aren’t getting 20% more effort. You get the same damn effort and 2 years later your back to hearing them complain about being underpaid.
Some nurse really fricked you up

He's right though. I know nurses that aren't smart. Hell, one drunk texted me the other night some crazy shite.
Plus, I feel like the pay complaint would happen everywhere, nurses aren't immune to complaining about pay.
Like do you think fast food workers at $15/hr are going to just stop complaining?
No.

I know doctors that say some of the dumbest shite imaginable. That's not a great bar for which professions require intelligence.

i dont either but agree that they (the gov i guess) should do something to maybe regulate it more while maintaining a high level of care
what also blows my mind is watching cable tv and every other commercial is a pharmaceutical ad. isnt it the providers job to tell me what meds i should be taking? why is so much money being spent on advertising specific drugs?
Yep may be one of the few times more govt regs are beneficial. As far as the pharama stuff goes I've always been curious about that too. Assume they're trying to get ahead of their generic competitors or are the generic competitor. You like their commercial so you tell your doc you'd prefer that one? lol.

there is definitely a nursing shortage as every hospital and unit is short staffed. don't comment on things you don't know anything about because then you look like dumbfrick

There definitely is. My wife is still RN with close to 20 years experience. Many of her friends have left the normal, smaller hospitals because of mediocre pay, rising workload and potentially being put in work environments that jeopardize your license.
That is absolutely happening.
Places don't offer CNAs and LVNs $10k signing bonus for the lulz.

Teachers are certainly outpacing the nurses in fricking the clientele these days.

One of these is not like the other...
And one of the dumbest chicks I know is an engineer grad from LSU if that tells you anything,
Posted on 12/7/23 at 4:25 pm to LNCHBOX
Everyone regardless of profession can and will say dumb shite. Doesn’t change the fact that on average Doctors, engineers, CPAs, etc are smarter than nurses, teachers, cops.

She may have zero common sense, but an idiot isn’t passing thermodynamics.
And as far as “one is not like the others”, you have a point there. I shouldn’t have lumped all teachers together

They also do a job involving something everyone has and knows something about.

there is definitely a nursing shortage
Hospital Administrators gutted their nursing staffs by bringing in overpaid, underqualified, locums nurses, many of whom are barely English speakers. Great nurses said "F" This, I'll go be a homemaker. TTFN.

Honestly both.

Honestly both.

Guy nurses are even worse than women nurses. The exception being CRNAs.

You aren’t getting it. If you give the top performers a 20% raise, they will be more likely to stay in their job rather than leave for another role or a higher paying job. Then, when the low performers leave or you fire them if you are allowed, you hire new ones. If they are good workers, you up their pay so they stay.
Workplaces with low pay compared to the workload/work environment have a high turnover rate. You can tell a shittily run business by the staff turnover rate. When everyone is new, there tends to be chaos and incompetence. There is one hospital in the area with a pretty low staff turnover. Their pay isn’t that much higher but their work environment is better. People stay. Experienced staff=fewer medical errors=you are less likely to die as a result of bad care if you are a patient there.

The work environment goes all the way back to how the administrators/management employees orchestrate what goes on. If any of the higher-ups are incompetent, it trickles down to the staff RNs and creates a dysfunctional environment. The result is that the quality of care is lower and everyone is pissed at each other.
