Around when did Stella Artois first become widely available in the US?

I remember getting one at Chimes maybe 10 years ago or so but have no memory of it before that.

It was pretty available in the mid 2000s. I used to get it all the time.

About 2011, a lady I was seeing gave me one when I visited. But I kept seeing her anyway.

I'm surprised she kept seeing you!

It was definitely around in the early 2000s. Pretty sure it’s been widely available for a while.

I had one at Flying Saucer in Memphis, circa 1998/1999. It was all the rage in NYC, they said. I thought it tasted like Bud Light.

When I visited Belgium in 2007 the old men at the cafes were drinking this. It was their BMC beer.

I agree. Much better than that ditch waster swill aka IPA.

Use to drink it sometimes at chimes around 2003, but didn’t pay attention to grocery stores.

Goes further back. I first drank it on a NYC trip in 1986.

I mean it is decent but I almost never drink in here in the US because there is almost always something I prefer more available. But in places like the Middle East where its slim pickings for beer I'll load up on it

They were advertising for a Wimbledon tuneup in the mid 1990s. My guess is the distribution/advertising in the U.S. got ramped up when they became part of Anheuser Busch (2008). It was more of a boutique thing before that.

Is “Artois” French for piss?
Because it tastes like Stella’s piss.

I remember it being in every bar and fairly popular in Athens my freshman year (2004).

After InBev bought them in 2004. By 2008 the merger was complete, and they were brewing over a billion litres annually. I don't love it, but it's a neutral lager that's nice to have on standby if the selection is limited. I certainly don't hate it.

I was a stagehand at the convention center in NOLA in 98 and a model was giving it away to attendees. When breaking down the booth i left with a few iced down cases that were left behind. It was free, so it tasted great!
