Car repair board

I went outside this morning and my car brake lights were on. The brakes were not being pressed but the brake lights were on nonetheless. I tried pulling up on the brake, turning the car on and off and fiddling with the blinkers but nothing made the brake lights go off. I didn't need the car today so I just unplugged the battery for now.
Any ideas?

Year/make/model?

You’re low on brake light fluid.

One time my brake lights would stay on until I pressed the brakes and then would go off. Almost got rear ended 3 times in bumper to bumper traffic one day. The only way I found out was a guy pulling up beside me and yelling at me.

There is a little plastic spacer between the pedal and a switch that has likely broken. Kia?

Very likely the brake light switch underneath or close to the brake pedal itself.

AI’s response based on your post:
While it's challenging to diagnose without a hands-on inspection, a stuck brake light switch, a short circuit, or a brake pedal sensor malfunction could be potential causes. Professional assistance would be the best approach for an accurate diagnosis and fix.

Dorman 74015 Brake Pedal Accelerator Stop

Depends on Year, Make, & Model
I've had a vehicle have issues with the stops behind the pedals.
Also had a vehicle in which the brake lights would stay on when the battery was low. They went off with a proper charge.

Needs a new Johnson rod.

I had a very odd brake malfunction in my 66 Mustang. Brakes would not work (at all) in reverse. The brakes worked ok going forward. I had a nice surprise backing down the hilly driveway LOL.
I don't do brake work so I'm interested to see what the issue is.

Before installing the new grommet, be sure to coat it in wheel wash, so it will seat properly.

Either your brake light switch or the brake light stopper are broken. Normally the stopper pushes the probe back to break electrical contact but if the stopper broke and fell apart the probe is out and allowing current. If the stopper is still there and looks normal it is the switch. If it is the switch you should pay extra to get the one for cruise control unless you never have and never plan on using cruise.
