Watched again. For a Tuesday 3:30 showing, the place wasn’t empty. A good dozen at least. Decent crowd.

Ha ha, good find. Having never seen a C.A.'s movie, I'd never have known.
Ready Player One has a brief sample at the appearance of Mecha-Godzilla. Such an iconic tune.
It's why there's no need for them to use the *BOC song, as much as I do like it. TOHO's theme is simply superior.
*End credits version to Legendary's KOTM though was pretty badass.

I just learned the classic Godzilla roar was made from massaging the strings of a standup-bass/cello while wearing rubber gloves. Makes sense as it always had some musicality to it.
Finally got to watch the movie last night. Easily the best overall Godzilla movie I've ever seen. He was actually fearsome for the first time for me, reminiscent of Jaws in the boat scenes. And the human characters arcs were so well-developed. Had plenty of heart & some humor.

Excellent film. Saw it last night and haven’t stopped thinking about it.
The monster smashing/battles are somewhat limited, in a good way, but extremely effective. A nice mix of classic and modern style. The atomic breath attack on Ginza was jaw dropping.
The human story was extremely well done. Being the bulk of the film, it’s what makes the entire package work so well.
I want more movies like this.
I get that it’s probably an homage to the original suitmation style, but it just didn’t look right to me.

quote:My only minor gripe is the effects for Godzilla walking. Like the scene with the film crew on the roof: He has natural movement destroying buildings, with a bit of agility and facial expression, then goes to the rigid, robotic, zombified, upright walk with a stone face. Looked like he was enthralled by the Hypnotoad.
Effects are fine but a little derpy

The true mark of a good product.

I throughly enjoyed this movie. Human elements of guilt, despair and hope combined with a badass monster. You don’t have to be a sci-fi nerd to enjoy, although I am one. Word must be out, theater was 90% full.

Has any Godzilla movie ever used Blue Oyster Cult's song Godzilla? I've seen them all and don't remember it ever being in one. Maybe a trailer... but not the movie
Godzilla: King of the Monsters used a pretty kickass cover in its end sequence.

I agree with this. Definitely an homage to the OG. But also when he does this he has this massive FUPA thing that was really stupid looking. Just not a model that I really liked. Though I loved the model from the first scene on the island

This is a reboot of the original 1954 Godzilla movie. No other movie is required though it might be fun to watch the original too
It's actually a prequel.

Holy shite!
A great movie that happens to be a Godzilla movie

Moved back a few years on the timeline, but not technically a prequel. Is it?
4th theatre viewing and on a rainy Christmas night, nearly a full house. The good is that G-1 is still drawing a crowd. The bad? Good grief, crowds of humans are getting insufferable. Don't bring younglings to a movie after 8pm. Just don't. And FFS, stop having full on conversations during the movie. But the other upside is that during a key moment, not a sound could be heard. THAT'S a moment you want for a great film. And that's what this is, a film.
*ETA - Seems TOHO isn't done with Godzilla Minus One. At least in Japan, there's going to be a re-release of a black & white version, early next year.

Saw this today. I didn't watch the last 2 Godzilla movies because reviews were kind of meh and I wasn't really into the franchise that much.
After reading this thread and seeing other reviews I made a point of seeing this in a theater and so glad I did.
Such a great and truly badass movie. I can't recommend it enough. I'm going to try and see it again before it leaves theaters. The $50 I got in AMC gift cards certainly helps in thus endeavor.
