Love is continual warm affection that is not intense passion, lust, toleration, apathy or indifference.

Steady, firm and hopefully a good measure of playfulness and flirtiness that doesn’t fade into the memory book.

I have no idea. I do know I screamed those exact words into the ear of the 17th best looking stripper in the tiddie bar at 1:46am though.

True love is hard to find, sometimes you think you have true love and then you catch the early flight home from San Diego and a couple of nude people jump out of your bathroom blindfolded like a goddamn magic show ready to double team your girlfriend.

hmmm that might fly in the face of me first capitalism.
I’d hope so!

Vague is good enough for today.
We westerners often demand too much when what we really need is a little silence, a little mystery.

God is love, and Paul explains it a bit more in 1 Corinthians 13. That should suffice for the day.

I’ve only been married a year but the definition has changed more in that time than all the other years of my life.

Not trying to preach my definition but convey my perspective.

Love, like tithing or sacrifice, as you get older means what you can do more in getting by without needed more. The more money we’ve needed, the more I’ve fasted. I did this when I worked for someone who didn’t pay me on time, and I lost weight and did more with less while saving money.

But love is about what your willing to give up more no matter what you give back in return. When it’s truly given this way, you get something back.

Love isn’t a bank account, it’s a power generator. Love isn’t transactional, it’s more of a capcitor. The more I’ve learned this, the easier it is to do what’s right.

There’s never been a better explanation than this…

quote:

13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

As you get older, you see things in your own life and how people treat each other and you understand more about it and what it means to you.

For example, your mother or father gets sick with dementia and your unaffected parent vows to take care of the other til the end, that’s love.

You make mistakes that should end your marriage but your significant other vows to help you recover and restore the love you once had, that’s love.

Romantic love, at least, is simply chemicals in your brain. The same chemicals that are released when certain drugs cause a feeling of euphoria, causing a feeling of attachment or addiction. Unfortunately, the release of those chemicals diminishes over time.

Correct.

It can also be said that love is choosing to will the good of another.
